I know this is probably a really stupid question, but I know some of you keep your snails in propagators. I've had a quick look on Ebay, and they sell heated ones. Now my instincts say that they wouldn't be safe, but I thought it was worth asking. So, can you keep snails in heated ones? Well, actually, can you keep snails in heated ones and use the heat?

Well, the heat obviously is in the bottom of the propagator, and I find that mine gets quite surprisingly hot!! Personally, I feel that they get too hot for snails.

That's what I worried about so I wont bother getting one. Does anyone know where you can get big unheated propagators? Preferably around the size or bigger than my storage boxes. I'll measure them later!

Oooh that last one looks alright - the large one. The top link only does the big big sizes in heated, and they're really expensive, I could get a couple of 2 foot tanks for that. Although their largest unheated one would be ok for fulicas...hmm...so yes, both links are fab thanks

You could... insulate the bottom of a heated propogator. I have two and have been contemplating the same problem for a while. A 1/2 inch thick sheet of polystyrene should be enough to insulate against overheating.
I might give it a test this week, if youre still interested in the idea. I underheat all my propagtors during the winter as well as side heating the tanks to take the edge off. And have never had a snail burnt/die because of it. As long as its warm and not hot, its enough.
