No, they will lay their eggs at any time, when they feel like it. I've had snails lay their eggs both in dark night and in bright day, it doesn't seem to matter what time of the day it is. ^^ But the longer they are keeping the eggs inside, the sooner the eggs will hatch when they finally lay them. Sometimes it just takes a couple of days until they hatch (as with my immaculatas). Good luck!

I love it when they lay eggs right up against the side of the tank -- it makes taking pics very convenient! ;D

I'm not sure about your species, but I've seen my garlic snails mating and laying constantly, like there's no tomorrow.

Hey i just wanted to ask - how should I keep these eggs? They lay just ontop of the soil or on cuttlefish just anywhere they feel like it and they never ever hatch. what shall i do? also im tinking of getting some white jades - could they live with ordinary africans? and lastly - if theve stopped laying whats wrong they havnt laid in months they always do normally ps. what garden plants and veg is safe to cover a tank in?

Hiya Rosie Most snails bury their eggs but some don't for some strange reason. In these cases you can scoop up the eggs and place them in a tub with some damp soil and air holes, and place the tub within the tank so that it's warm (assuming thee tank is constantly warm). there are several reasons for snails to stop laying eggs. A drop in temperature can be one reason, it can trigger them into thinking that it's the end of the egg-laying season. Even with a heat mat snails can sense the change in temperature. Yes jades can live with normal Africans. There are several species of African Land Snails but the most common in captivity are the Achatina fulica. Jades are the albino-bodied variety of Achatina fulica and require the same conditions. They will most likely breed with the normal fulica, but all of the first generation will look like normal fulica (assuming the normal fulica do not have any albino genes). The next generation bred together will then produce some albinos. A word of warning if i may please - although it's great seeing eggs hatch and raising baby snails it is hard to keep and/rehome fulica. You may end up with far too many if you;re not careful about the amount that you let hatch. Many of us have been there with accidental hatchings...

I know thousands and thousands of Africans. But I'm not quite sure what an "ordinary african" is ? We're a snail forum here, so I'm assuming that this is not human but a GALS. If so which one, as the name implies they all came from Africa !

GALS means Giant African Land Snails. There aren't any separate male or female snails, since they are all both male and female together. We just give them male or female names for the sake of convenience.
