Alright! As I stated in the other thread, there were some issues with my photos, but after finally troubleshooting some technical difficulties with my pictures I can now post up my parsnip experiment I conducted 5 days ago. Since parsnips look similar to carrots, though they taste really different IMO (Yup I’ve tried some myself before giving it to the snails), I predicted that the snails would end up loving it.
Day 1
Bird’s-eye view of the snails being tested: White lid, blue lid and the breeding ground snails. Meh this picture came out so blurry…
Photos of the snails within the white lid container
Not really sure what these guys are doing here
Is this one eating or running? Kind of looks like it’s U-turning to me.
Or not?
Blue lid photos
Two yellow shelled brown-lips having a bite while the black one sits and thinks about whether it wants to join or not.
Overview of a section within the container.
Snail- This tastes interesting!
Looks like somebody made up their mind and decided to join the others.
Playing with the colour effects. Cooooool eh?
In the breeding grounds
Day 2
Bird’s-eye view of the three containers during the second day of this test.
What’s going on here?
These flamed tigersnails look bored?
Neohelix albolabris chilling at the edge of a flat rock.
And the other one is here chilling on the roof. What’s it doing up there? Perhaps it wants a coffee and newspaper. Wait! That couldn’t well…
Let’s go over to the blue lid.
Hello? Where did everyone go?
Just a lone brown-lip and tiny forest snail here.
AHA! So this is where everybody went! Under the circumference of the temporary micro breeding ground!
And now lastly I’m going to show the snails in the breeding ground.
You guys sure chipped up your pieces!
Two neos on the wall ready to escape. Well, not so much the one on the left…
Flamed tigersnail doing who knows what.
I wish this didn’t come out so blurry so your facial expression could be more noticeable.
Peek out all you want. You know you’re not going far under my watch!
So! The first day had me thinking that by tomorrow the parsnip pieces would be filled with holes and that there’d be a mess everywhere, but it seems like by the time the second day rolled in they lost interest. This might be because the pieces become dry and rough after 24 hours, so I tried misting it, but they still didn’t seem too interested. I guess they only liked the parsnip while it was fresh and moist. Interestingly enough, I did actually try this with my baby snails and the neohelixs loved it of course while the brown-lipped babies just walked away.
Parsnip experiment ratings
Flamed tigersnails: Fair
Neohelix albolabris: Great
Brown lipped snails: Good-Great (adults)
