Cliath, yes to both! I'm aiming to get a Tiger snail within the next couple months or so, and then that'll be it for a while, unless we count my wild caught snails breeding. It's getting hard not to get completely carried away though, snails are such nice pets.

I know! Gals are addictive though, one you get one it's hard not to buy more! I also plan on getting a tiger snail in the next few months or so! Can't wait

Haha Cliath, we're waiting to get our Tigers, nice! Thanks Muddydragon heh, the gender pronoun issue is a bit hard, my native language allows for genderless talk about snails but in English they're all He except for my sweet Lemon. Taavetti the big Rodatzi is getting crazy strong! The things he moves around and turns over every night, it makes me wonder what tank set-ups will ever last long when he grows even bigger. It also gets hard to sleep with his tank in the bedroom because I worry he gets himself or the smaller snails into accidents when I hear thuds and cracks! I love to see how very gentle he is with the little ones though.

Thanks Zorst Me too, especially baby Tauno gets treated very well. I'd seen this in my smaller species so it's no complete surprise, but especially Taavetti is very careful not to hurt him!

I've got Tauno's brothers n sisters in a separate glass tank beside my bed with a few other baby gals that are quite a bit bigger. I have to say they are all getting along very well and its quite something to see all the size differences between them when they all are eating. The smallest though are always looked after by the other snails.

Thanks Muddydragon heh, the gender pronoun issue is a bit hard, my native language allows for genderless talk about snails but in English they're all He except for my sweet Lemon. English can be a pain sometimes i suppose technically i should use it but it infers that they are more of an object than a real thing, he is often used for things of unknown gender (such as fetuses) but that also sounds a bit presumptious hence why i resort to picking either he or she (usually based on the name) and using quotation marks. you don't fancy lending english a genderless pronoun do you? Taavetti the big Rodatzi is getting crazy strong! The things he moves around and turns over every night, it makes me wonder what tank set-ups will ever last long when he grows even bigger. It also gets hard to sleep with his tank in the bedroom because I worry he gets himself or the smaller snails into accidents when I hear thuds and cracks! I love to see how very gentle he is with the little ones though. haha i started off like that, now when the margies are not in my room (such as now as we are redecorating) i find it harder to sleep without the mad array of bizarre noises they make. no setup will ever last long with destructive snails, trust me

AHHHH Sweet Snail music, its the best thing to go to sleep listening to . I kid you not I find I can't sleep at night if I don't have the snail music around, its my nightly lullaby lol. Zorst

Mauno likes to sit in the scallop shell that originally was Tauno's water cup. Here's hoping that eventually I too will find snail music a lullaby, I'm still getting up to check everything's okay when I hear thuds! Nothing bad has ever happened yet though, maybe soon I'll learn. I think I'll be writing more about the big ones looking after the little ones, because I think there's a lot of mixed information about this out there and I'd like a bit more conversation about it. My observation-based opinion, similar to what Zorst said, is that the adults recognise who is a baby and who is just a small species, and they try to be very careful with babies of even different snail species to their own.

The box was just a temporary fix for lack of room when I was too broke to buy a real glass tank. Anyhow today I bought one that's big enough to hold my current GALS and maybe the Tiger (which I hope to get soon) as long as they're all young. Its current lid is just two pieces of glass that have a gap in between them when they're both in place. So, after setting it up, I put some iron snails on top of the tank so the flesh and blood ones can't escape, and Taavetti climbed up to take a look. "I'm gonna be like him, yeah, you know, I'm gonna be like him...!"

you have such gorgeous snails both real and not . I'm guessing he would figure out it's not real "his slime just doesn't taste right"

Thanks I think he did in fact figure it out. He slept for a while, then woke up because he slid down the wall in his sleep. He looks very disappointed now, biting the edge of his foot, one eye pulled in and another one drooping (a bit like my avatar, but much, much more wrinkly). Poor Taavetti, I think he wishes he had friends his size and not just babies in the tank with him.

Thanks morningcoffee Also, the season for homegrown apples is over, but it was over much sooner for my snails: Taavetti hasn't touched a rotten apple at all since that one earlier documented time when he got so drunk, he forgot how to climb. Mauno and Tauno did take little bites of a different apple, but it was in such small quantities that they didn't show any extra weird behaviour.

Taavetti last night. He'd been digging and digging and digging, and then his head appeared from the other side of the soil pile. He just sat there looking bewildered for a long time. Then he streeeeeetched (he's incredibly long these days! ) and pulled himself out, leaving the area looking like a bomb had gone off.
