They're really cute! I'm afraid I can help you with the spices though. And I love they're names!

I'm guessing it will be easier to tell their species as they get bigger. Thank you! I thought that seeing as they're hermaphrodites, unisex names would be most appropriate.

Some users here may be able to identify them, unfortunately that's not me, but they're very sweet little snailies! I almost asked what size they are, then I saw the peas. Congrats and good luck! Edit: Oh and obviously, welcome to the forum!

Haha they are roughly pea-sized, I haven't measured them yet but I will do soon! Thank you so much I'm hoping I don't make too many mistakes! They haven't eaten yet, I'm assuming they're getting used to their new home, but I'm going to buy them some different food tomorrow. All they ate at their previous home was lettuce, so I want to vary their diet!

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and to snails! Someone on my university course was giving away baby GALS, so I did some research and decided to take 2 of them off his hands I've named them Francis and Glen, but haven't decided who's who yet as I can't really tell them apart! I think they're around a week old, I'm not sure which species they are. Here are some pictures for you to see They look like classic Achatina fulica babies

Really cute babies! When I first got snails, (couple of months ago) all I did was offer them lettuce which they gladly ate at first but then stopped over time. Turns out I wasn't meeting their nutritional needs, might be a similar case here if all they've been eating is lettuce. Could also be they are so small their bite marks aren't very noticeable but try giving them a slice of sweet potato or yam with the skin removed. Also since they are babies they need lots of calcium, do you have any cuttlefish for them? Don't worry too much about making mistakes, if you check some of my posts on here you see it took me awhile to get into the swing of things.

Thank you I think they were just getting used to their new home, they've since eaten sweet potato and carrot. I do have cuttlefish for them, but they don't seem too interested in it yet, but as you said, they could be eating small amounts during the night and I just don't notice. Thanks again for your reply

Lovely photos! The second one in particular really shows the details. Thank you! I love taking photos of them, mainly because they don't move too fast so it's easy to get good shots

It's amazing how much they've grown since I posted the photos. Haha they do look like greengages, but they're peas (not that my snails were remotely interested in them).

Speaking of peas, my Arianta arbustorum really liked steamed peas from the freezer when I first got them. Always made me laugh how an adult one would eat a pea in one sitting like it was the best thing ever, and it was the cheapest thing from the grocery store's frozen veg section after all. Though after they discovered sweet potato, the peas haven't been quite so popular anymore.

All of them. When I give them frozen mixed vegetables, they eat all of the corn ( especially the corn), carrots and green beans and leave behind all the peas for me to clean up.

I can't wait to give them corn! I tend to buy tinned sweetcorn which has added salt so I'll remember to get some frozen corn next time. It sounds gross, but it's so interesting to look at their poo in the morning to try and work out what they've been munching on throughout the night!

But snail poop IS interesting. There's an old humorous thread somewhere here called "you know you're snail obsessed when...." and it has "you think rainbow poop is hilarious and show it off to your non-snailkeeper friends!" and I must say I have to resist doing that. "oh look! First he had calcium, then he ate soil, then he had carrot, then a green leaf from the plant...oh, i'm alone, wonder why..."

Haha that is so true! I think I'll keep my snail poop fascination for these boards, or I may find myself with no actual human friends and just snails for company.

You'll still have some human friends us here who are all snail crazy anyway. Besides which snails are great listeners n they never answer you back at least not in human language so you can always count on em to keep your secrets. Zorst

One of the Margies did an interesting snail poop last night like I've never seen before, Instead of bands of colors this one looked like stripey toothpaste with the stripes running through it lengthways. My only conclusion can be that he ate the 3 foods together to get that effect.
