Thanks guys Mauno is resting so comfortably behind the root again. It's at the opposite end from Taavetti's favourite bulldozing site. He pulled some of the food I threw him closer to his little cave, and I must check later if he's rasped at the cuttlebone. I don't think they have any other problems with each other, Mauno just seems a light sleeper who appreciates being able to hide, but preferably not by digging holes but instead by blending in to his background. He also spends some days just up high, keeping an eye on everything, even though the other snails are in deep sleep.

Weird little update - I got a young Tiger snail, who is absolutely crazy about digging holes and tunnels, and I think about a day after the Tiger arrived, Mauno dug his first ever hole in the soil. Now he's been digging sleeping holes for himself most days, with the tip of his shell showing when he's sleeping. He still spends most of his time at the end of the tank where the root is. He also often has his shell pressed right against it. I think he truly knows the root is the same colour as him. He's grown a bunch, but still has the lovely innocent look in his eyes.

Ha, cute! I think snails teach each other things. I've seen a few examples of it... I should also be getting a balteata in the next few weeks!

I too think that they do, though I'm surprised that it would include such a basic snaily thing like digging sleeping holes! You are? Awesome, you must post in this thread when the snail arrives!

Yeah, although a lot of my garden snails only dig when laying eggs, my gals never stop digging! They aren't quite big enough to bulldoze yet thank goodness! And of course I'll post, it's extremely hard to find info on them though, as far as I can see they just take the same care as fulica... Is this correct?

Haha wait for it, soon enough you'll find that your tank looks just a little bit different every morning. Also it's funny how Ewert the Tiger is the only one who truly digs tunnels so that he's completely underground, the others always have a part of their shells visible. As for my wild caughts, the Cepaea only dig when they lay eggs, the Arianta dig for sleeping purposes as well. Yeah as far as I've noticed the basics are the same, some say that there should be a little bit of heating (compared to fulica's preference) but that depends on your room temp I guess - this house for example is very well insulated so I'm not very worried. I do have a heat mat for the GALS but currently I only have it on a couple hours each day. The mat is at the other end of my tank anyway, as to produce a gradient that the snails can choose the best place from if I end up using the heat mat more. Despite the care being similar, my Mauno reacts to the environment quite differently to others. Like, for example nobody else has appeared to like the root itself quite as much! It's fascinating. Plus he's super pretty, getting prettier every day!

Eek! I'm also hopefully getting two WC Margies. So id say, with the size of them their tank won't stand a chance!
I have the same set up for my fulica, my room is warm and they get the heat mat for a few hours.
I can't wait to see how my guy will get on! And Mauno is a lovely snail, and very photogenic!

Ewert's gotten everyone into digging. Even Mauno can these days completely burrow to sleep and not even leave the tip of the shell showing. Lol. He still enojoys the root though and likes to sleep behind it, and move near it. His striping has become a little lighter lately. I'll take pictures soon.
