Ok so ive been thinking, and yes you may think im crazy, but can snails drink milk, or eat butter? Has anyone tried it? Or would it be terrible if I just gave it ago to see if snails enjoy it? There is a video on YouTube of a snail enjoying milk, so it cant be too dangerous, can it?

Why would you want to give them milk and butter? For the calcium value

The majority of butter contains quite high amounts of salt so isn't a good idea, n personally I wouldn't give either as there are many other much better n more natural forms of calcium for snails.

Give them proper snail-appropriate sources of calcium. Cuttlefish bone, limestone flour, oyster shell, reptile calcium supplements. There are plenty of vegetables high in calcium too. Kale, cooked collard greens, spring greens, turnip greens, rocket, spinach, watercress, broccoli, okra, soybeans, dried figs, and almonds all have good calcium levels. Far higher levels than butter, in fact, which is not very rich in calcium at all (butter has 24mg of calcium per 100g, kale has 205mg - for comparison, 1% fat milk has 125mg per 100g) and far more suitable for snails' diets.

While we're on the subject of butter, is it true that snails shouldn't eat things with fat in them (such as fatty meat as their protein snack)?

While we're on the subject of butter, is it true that snails shouldn't eat things with fat in them (such as fatty meat as their protein snack)? I'm not 100% sure, I know that very little of a snail's body is made up of fat, and fatty foods are obviously something they wouldn't really encounter in the wild. Probably better to avoid it.

i've had a bit of a paper rumage and suprisingly snails do produce lactase (enzyme for digesting lactose which is found in dairy products, the lack of this enzyme is what ususally makes people etc lactose intollerant). However the activity is apparently very low, which means they can't digest much lactose atall. So although they may be able to tollerate a little bit i really would advise not giving them foods high in this, basically dairy products.
It's not something they are really going to encounter in th wild so it would be unwise and could cause digestive problems for the snail.
As for high fat foods, i cant find much info on their lipase activity (enzyme that breaks down fats). As MC says it's best just to avoid it as they wouldn't encounter high fat foods.
