Taavetti is definitely eating & pooping a lot again. Phew! His shell repair is also advancing very, very nicely. He still doesn't spontaneously go to the part of the tank where his accident happened, even though Ewert has worked very, very hard on making it different (lol, how many tunnels can a young snail dig? Very, very many!) and there are big piles of yummy food over there, but he's active enough elsewhere. Also he's interacting with the other snails a lot. It'll all be okay, I'm sure.

Ahh that sounds good, lol it also sounds like Ewert is having a great time being a one snail bulldozer crew. The Margies here r as bad they completely dug up n moved there half a pottery flower pot to the other end of the tank last night? Now there sleeping in there empty water bowl which the also moved inside there flower pot. Weird snails lol ! Zorst

Lol Zorst & your margies! I'm sure Taavetti will join in the bulldozing crew again once his shell repair is finished, which btw has continued going very well. Meanwhile, as Taavetti has been careful (very wisely) and not digging further than enough to hide his head, the balteata Mauno has discovered the joy of digging. Took him ages for some reason! Also, all the attention, gentle baths, etc I've given Taavetti has made him very fond of my hand. He'll push against my finger if I'm petting him, let me touch everywhere including his eye stalks without startling at all, and even wrap around my finger when I try to put him back into his home tank. Last night I had to get him wet because else he wouldn't let go!

Taavetti sounds like quite the adorable character. Funny that Mauno is now bulldozing, must be feeling at home When my old fulica Doug is peeking over the edge of the tank with the lid off he will climb out onto my hand for a bit of a cuddle, lol. The new snail (accidental retic, lol) is super friendly and doesn't really care what I do to him They don't bulldoze - I moved them into a new tank on the weekend with a piece of wood and planted ivy and they haven't moved anything yet. Brian the young jadatzi buries himself in the flowerpot to sleep but Doug and the retic sleep where they get tired I think, usually the water dish or on top of the flowerpot on the moss or on the side of the tank near the top.

Thanks for the comments Re snail sleep - sometimes my snails just fall asleep in the middle of eating calcium, sometimes they return to a specific hole in the ground on many days and then make a new one. Taavetti's first ever sleeping hole that he returned to every day for a week or so was pretty special, he'd dug it near a wall so that he had a window through which he could watch the, uh, white wall of the room (dreaming of that much calcium maybe?) I had to eventually clean it up though because it was his favourite toilet as well as his favourite sleeping place, and he never crawled into it again. Taavetti is a great snail, his shell is repaired now too. He only has problems because everyone else in the tank is, regardless of their size, developmentally a baby. Even Ewert, who's the nearest to Taavetti's size but not sexually mature, likes the occasional gentle hug and kiss but apparently he's not at all into the rough play that Taavetti wishes to do, he only tries to get away when Taavetti wraps around him. I thought I had enough snails, but as Taavetti's loneliness and frustration breaks my heart so I'm now trying to get him a sexually mature Fulica friend his size (as there's no way to know when the others will catch up to him).
