I finally got basic photo editing software, so now my pictures aren't such random sizes anymore. I've been observing some amusing snaily situations lately, and luckily I've also had my camera (as in, my phone ) at hand! I made a separate thread, because they're of different snail species and I'd absolutely love it if others joined in posting funny snail photos, too. But if not, I'll try and catch more funniness myself. Here goes: Taavetti wriggles his eye stalks! He has a plan! Oh, what's he doing? More wriggling! The long shutter speed in these makes him look speedy! He's so determined! Ok, now what? Wait, I know that look... AHHH HE'S GONNA EAT ME. Or maybe give a slimy kiss! Unfortunately it turns out that the wall is more interesting than I am. Meanwhile (or something) at the other end of the tank: Ewert rises from his tunnel so triumphantly! Time to look for tonight's new rotten food and snail poop, ahh, life's so good! In my wild caught snails tank, things get really boring because most of the snails are sleeping. There are some funny little things though if you look very carefully. It's a bit hard to explain, but I laughed so hard when I saw this situation. The Arianta face and the micro mini baby exploring his shell, I just had to take a picture. I hope you'll find it as amusing as I did. Then for a final photo: I meant to take a beautiful document of inter-species friendship, because Taavetti had been kissing Mauno's back and stroking his body and shell all over with his tentacles. Mauno did seem a little tense about it and decided to escape into the bath tub, but in this very photo poor Taavetti looks like a creepy old stalker hitting on a beautiful young creature. I SWEAR he didn't look like that except during the second I took this photo! Goodness. I hope he doesn't read this forum, he'd be so angry with me! Mauno on the other hand is super photogenic as always. I hope you enjoyed!

I agree, missjuniper! Snails are so funny. I still giggle when I see the babysitter Arianta photo. Also the other night I wasn't thinking fully and threw my GALS some peas that I hadn't broken open. Soon I saw Mauno and Tauno trying to break into one single pea together! It was impossibly cute, though very frustrating for them as they just couldn't rasp through the skin, and soon they gave up altogether. I took the peas back, broke them open, returned them, and soon they were gone! Lol.

Thanks! Oh darn, so much funniness goes by when I don't have a camera at hand. Last night Taavetti kissed Mauno on the face when they were sitting on the same cuttlebone, and Mauno, apparently taken by surprise, fell right over into the substrate. I laughed so hard. Taavetti kept on stroking him gently after that, and got very, very aroused. Mauno is still not sexually mature, though. I'm not sure if that was funny or not.

Thanks Cliath! Here's more! Not sure what exactly Ewert is doing here, but Mauno definitely is not the only snail interested in the root itself anymore. Little Tauno carved the insides of what used to be a carrot slice very carefully, till only the carrot skin ring was left. I thought it was funny, and left it in the tank so the snails could play with it. Then I told Taavetti here, "listen, if you put your head into that ring, I'm taking a picture". Then I forgot to set the flash settings of my camera right. Anyhow.... .....iiiiit puuuuutsssssss the rrrrrrinnnnng on itsssssssss.... err... ssssssselffffff..... Then he came out of the ring, leaving it intact still. The story may or may not continue, we'll see if someone eats the ring tonight!

The root kinda looks like a face, and it looks like Ewert it being sucked into the mouth! The carrot necklace is cute!

Lol, yes, perhaps he did it in some kind of mysterious snail language that we can't hear! That's actually a very good question, now that I really think of it. Maybe the camera did catch some actual magic happening and I just shrugged it off as wrong flash settings. And that's why the first picture of Taavetti & the carrot ring is so shiny and strange too - magic waiting to happen!

Thanks Zorst, and you're welcome! Looking forward to your photos! I've been talking to my friends about how it's difficult to pamper your snails expensively when with a dog, you can have health spas, winter clothes etc etc, but snails may not even take gourmet food, instead they'll eat soil from under the dish. Maybe snail necklaces will be the thing!

This was pretty funny, The 2 mating were basically stuck on the snail at the back, and he didnt move until they were finished with eachother, you should have seen the face of the snail, it was like get over with it already!!!!!

I like your photos, the text under them makes it even more amusing He must be seeing something! Ugh, im so tired, oh well better get moving! Huh, whats this thing blocking my path? Sniff Sniff, doesnt smell like food! Maybe i can dig it out! And guess what? digging it out didnt work out the way he planned it, so the result was something like this: Gotta love grumpy snails! or are they playing hide and seek?

Ahahahaha! Great photos kamerplant! The first one looks so happy My snails stretch up to stare at the roof too, though they're still so young, great to see a very big snail doing exactly the same lol. Poor snail and his failed digging attempt! Grumpy snails are so adorable (though I rarely catch that face in a picture!), and I often laugh at how slowly they wake up and how it looks like they're anything but "morning" persons. The sloooow pushing out of the eye stalks, the way they're much more easily shocked when just waking up, etc. Makes me feel better about not being a morning person myself. Aww missjuniper, small snails can be super funny too! Mine are very boring right now as they're mostly sleeping, but I'll see if I find an old photo or a few of my little ones to add here!

Okay, for those who don't know Rudolf, here's his story: petsnails.proboards.com/thread/14279/amazing-repair-wild-ariantaI have a confession to make. I say in that thread that I don't have a picture of Rudolf mating on a food dish that needs cleaning, but the truth is, I did take a single one later on, and didn't tell anyone. The whole situation was just so funny from human perspective, and I decided I'd rather not forget after all. So here's the picture. Yes, I've gotten over my fear of showing muck in my pictures. The decaying food, the babies sitting on Rudolf's shell watching, Rudolf's and his partner's size difference, etc - so much "wrong" in our eyes, but in snail world, not at all. (I have very recently spotted babies with Rudolf's colours, too, and I can't wait to see them grow! )

New pictures already, because I happened to have a tank cleaning day today, and my small snails got quite a bit more lively as I stirred the soil, removed garbage, misted around a lot, and washed the walls and hiding places. Not everyone appreciated this at all though. See below: "MEH. Leave us alone already. No really, put at least that dumb flashing light away! " The baby that looks like it has one gigantic eye did actually have normal anatomy. "Hi! I'm a snail crossing the tank! See what I'm doing here? Come look closer!" "Who needs hands when you have a foot this practical?"

Thanks Cliath It's Chlorophytum, aka Spider plant. I haven't cut off the old inflorescence brances that now carry little plantlets. The snails love to climb all around them.
