I know someone who missed a clutch of about 100 eggs and they have started to hatch. They're achatina fulica. Has anyone got any advice?

Could you sell them?

Either sell them if your not in the US, or pop them into the freezer for 24 hours.
They could also take a trip to the snails' native range in africa and release them into the wild.

They could look into selling/giving them away as live food - check local reptile shops if they will take them as food, or sell them on ebay as live food. This has to be done asap, the larger the hatchlings the less desirable they will be as livefood.
Fulica are very common in most places and difficult to give away let alone sell - a few here and there you can generally shift, 100 will be very difficult to manage or to get rid of.
I would freeze them or crush them if I couldn't shift them as livefood - but that's your friends choice to decide if they're willing to get rid of them. Its worth keeping in mind what quality of life you will be able to give them if you choose to try and keep them.

i agree with starcrazy. A lot of hatched A. fulica is a terrible situation to be in. Are they the normal colour? they may have more luck rehoming them if they're jadatzi, jade or rodatzi colours. However with "normal" colours they will really struggle to rehome them. Unfrotunatly the options are pretty much as starcrazy said:
Reptile food. "euthanise" some other way. Try to rehome them all - likely to get stuck with virtually all of them and unless she can cope with tons of tanks their quality of life will be awful due to cramped conditions.
If they tried to rehome try: Pet shops (may go as reptile food/to known knowledgeable people and have poor lives, some may have good lives) Local ads (gumtree etc) Local schools Local botanic gardens/zoos who may want a display just advertise everywhere and expect nothing for them.
Hopefully they will be much more vigilent in future.

I heard that if you notice them before they start forming you can crush them because they haven't started forming yet so theres not really a snail in the egg.

Thanks all, I think there are some albino, not sure if they're white jade or jadatzi, I haven't seen them yet. He doesn't want to sell them for live food or euthanise them. I'm taking some, as I have room for a few. So I guess all he can do is try rehome them. Thanks again!

well if there are some albino snails he's got slightly more chance of selling/rehoming them. Just advise him to advertise everywhere he can possibly think of. then think some more and find more places

Wait I've got it! We should all buy carnivorous snails! What do you mean? Well, carnivorous snails have a strict diet consisting of other snails lol. If we all had some predatory snails we could just feed them our hatchlings. I hope to get some carnivores soon, and I'll try feeding them fresh clam meat assuming they will quickly wipe out the hatchlings. I find that usually with these seldom-kept species not much is known about their care, but it's not as difficult as it sounds. It's like when I bought a mandarin dragonet for my old saltwater aquarium everyone in the store and online said "Oh you gotta have live copopod colonies living in your aquarium. All they eat is live food. Its rare to keep this species successfully." Two weeks later I trained it to eat frozen food lol. Hopefully the person I'm talking to will find some because I've wanted a certain carnivorous species my whole life.

It depends on the species of carnivorous snail, but some of them only hunt prey via following a slime trail and thus only eat snails and slugs. Some will eat live earthworms, insect larvae etc.

I can always go collect feeder snails around here, it just would be easier if I can toss in some clam meat every few days.

Where do you find your snail suppliers?! You need to send me some contacts or send me some snails. Seriously though all my kiddo wants for Christmas is snails. She's not asking for barbies or princess stuff. It's snails and banana slugs. Lol

The person who I asked for wolf snails can't find any right now though. Please don't do this. It's against the forum guidelines to contact people asking for snails if they have not already advertised them in the classifieds section. Particularly in the US where there are some complicated laws and rules about shipping snails across state lines.
