my beatific snail seems to have herniated part of his digestive tract from his mouth. He seemed less active recently and was falling off his tank more often. His throat is now thin and his eye stalks are less active. He has lost his lustre. I am so upset. What us the best thing to do? I assume he is finished. But do I just keep him clean and watered (although I imagine he can't feed) to the end, or should I put him to sleep and if so, how? Is there anything to me done? Please advise as so sad. He was a lovely fellow. Thanks. C

I'm very sorry to hear about Basil. It sounds like he has gut extrusion. You can help him by sterilising a sharp needle and carefully puncturing the sac that's coming out of his mouth, so he'll be less uncomfortable. Here is a thread: petsnails.proboards.com/thread/7692/gut-extrusion?page=3 , scroll down a little bit on page 3 (my link should take you there) and you'll find instructions for how you can try to further help Basil by gently putting the gut back in him. It's a scary treatment I know, but some snails have been helped by it, when nearly all cases of untreated gut extrusion lead to death. Again, I'm sorry you and your snail have to go through this.
