Hello everybody! I know that this may be a silly question, but I am not as knowledgable as some of the people on this forum. I usually give my two snails a warm distilled water bath because it helps them to come out and is good for them every once and awhile. When I watch them, it seems as if they are panicking. I would never want any of my snails to feel threatened so I am wondering if I should stop on the baths or cut down on them. Thank you everybody, and have a nice day!

I would never use distilled water for pets (I put it in my snail mister, since this evaporates the water and is suceptable to limescale) But otherwise - distilled water causes reverse osmosis, drawing minerals and nutrients out of the body and disrupting their existing water balance. Warm baths with filtered, or bottled water should be just fine - most snails enjoy shallow baths and like to have a shallow water bowl available in their tank. Just make sure the water level does not cover their breathing hole (on the right side of their shell) and that they can crawl out if they want

I've heard that distilled water draws minerals out of the body, but honestly in nature a snail experiences distilled water frequently (rain), and I don't think its something which is extremely harmful. Baths with distilled water should be fine, but providing regular bottled water for them is a good idea too.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the water that I use is actually filtered but I was wondering if they don't like baths period.

Maybe its too warm then. Try shallow and only slightly above room temperature. Mine don't really care for baths either, so I don't give any other than highly diluted green tea every few months. They just crawl up the sides of the container after a few minutes anyways.

I don't use any type of "fancy" water I just use tap water and never had a problem with it, though depending on where you live, it may or may not be the best thing to use.

Yes Cashell. Where I live I am not sure what the quality of the tap water is so I use refrigerator water.

Not to be picky (because it really doesn't matter) but rainwater is not 'distilled', it will collect particulates, pollutants, dust, salts acids, disolved gasses, basically allsorts, from the atmosphere and not be chemically pure in the same sense by the time it reaches the ground.
I use tapwater for my snails too, since the water quality where I live is pretty good.

I use spring water from our well we have to get it tested so I know its pure as its from the mountain we live on, being private water that's naturally filter and there are no agri pollutants as this is a protected area. Everything's filtered through the mountain and bubbles up in the spring.
The snails here all love their warm baths in it, once in a while if needed I add a green tea teabag.
