It's not actually a heat lamp, it's just a normal lamp that happens to give off a bit of heat lol but I've put him near it now and he's right next to me so I can keep a close eye on him. He's got some sweetcorn and tomato in beer, and a bowl of water.
I've been doing as you've just said, and I'm trying to leave him alone as much as possible, I've only been touching him to move him onto the food and then I've just sat watching him lol. I don't think he's eaten anything yet, Dad put some lettuce in when he first found him, but I don't know how much so I don't know if he ate any of it. But yeah he's bound to be hungry at some point.
I'm just so used to putting the food in and it being gone in a few hours! lol.
Thanks for all the help everyone. Will keep you updated. And I'll try and stop worrying lol.
Oh one more thing, can I give him the instant "smash" mash? Or does it have to be real potatoe mash?

Smash should be fine, just make sure it has no salt in it!! I reckon you have a good chance of this guy making it so try not to worry, you are doing absolutely great with him, as Anjie said the more you handle him the more he may hide. Keep us posted. Val x

Hey I was thinking about a heat lamp, but worried they would hurt themselves on it. but if it was hanging from the lid, and they cudnt reach it, then would it be ok?

Well I was thinking about getting a Leopard Gecko, and the heat lamps you can get for them hang above the tank (most clip to the side and hang over) and they get the heat still because they have mesh lids. I could always get a cheap one (I have seen some cheap honest lol) and put it over the tank with the lid off of it and just keep an eye on him.
I just looked at the smash tin downstairs and it says it has salt in. >=/ Grr. Doesn't say any % either >=/
Just looking at the food list and there's no potatoe on there.. would a slice of soft potatoe be any good? Would cooked or raw be better?

Awww I'm sure your Tiger will be fine, you know much more than me so I'm sure you'll do fine with it! I'm sure my Margie will be fine too, it's just trying to get the worrying part of my brain to understand that lol. I'll see if I can mash up some tattys tomorrow. The normal lamp I said about is sort of working.. well I think it's that lol I'm not sure really. He's a tiny bit out again, but hasn't gone back in at all for over an hour now. But then hasn't come out more either! I've put him on some cucumber now, hopefully that will tempt him out a bit more. My other snails can't resist cucumber! ! REALLY REALLY TINY BUT SO AMAZING BREAKTHROUGH!! lol. I just took a pause from writing this to drip some beer on the cucumber, and he didn't move away!! Normally if anything touches him even lightly, he goes back into his shell! *Calms* lol.

Check the ingredients of the smash first. I would imagine it contains alot of preservatives etc. Not a very natural food. I tried looking for you, but link wasn't working, only got mr mash, and that contains e numbers galore, preservatives etc. I doubt it would kill them, just seems very un natural to me. Nat

Well I checked yesterday and saw salt so I put the tin straight down and didn't bother reading anymore lol. I'll see what I can cook up today, if I can't get any tattys mashed I'll try something else... hmm I have plenty of fish flake.. *was reading that thread* haha

Right, I've found an ok priced heat mat. The bulbs for the lamps I found cheap, but not the bloomin holders lol so it's cheaper to get a mat.
BUT before I do, will it make it warm enough for him? From the things I've been reading it's only "background" heat, do they actually warm it up much or not?

Heat mats work much better on glass tanks, but they do warm up plastic tanks also. I drilled some holes to allow the heat through on plastic tanks. The thing is, in both cases don't expect instant results, it takes time for the mats to heat the air in tha tank.

Sian, he might not be cold. Warm room temperature will be fine for him at the moment.
He could be staying in his shell to recover from his ordeal - he's been injured (obviously) he needs to use energy to heal himself. beleive me - i've been there done that - what he needs is rest and food there if he wants it. You can't force these snails to do anything lol. Trust me, leave him be and he'll have a chance - its hard i know, but you gotta do whats best for him.
I've pm'd you by the way.
Anjie,x.

Thanks for the info guys. I might get a heat mat anyway, for "emergencies" so to speak lol. I've seen quite a few good priced ones around today. But for now I'll just keep the tank wrapped up as it's actually quite cold in here at the moment. (Typical when I need it warm it goes cold *rolls eyes* ) He actually moved today.. I placed him on some cucumber and when I came back up he'd moved off it lol. So that's something. At the moment he's sat on some mash and appears to be coming out little by little at a very slow pace, whether he'll come out and eat or just move off the food again remains to be seen, by at least he's moving. And yes, I know I need to leave him alone I'm just worried about him lol. I've only picked him up totally once since I got him, the rest of the time I only touch him to move him onto the food which I'm now only doing once a day. Thanks for the pm too, hopefully a friend will help
