My little one and only is gone... Snaggle was fine. He was eating well, climbing around and then last night, before going to bed, gave him a bit of cucumber in case he woke up before the morning. When I looked at him this morning, he hadn't budged. I picked Snaggle up and started stroking his shell to wake him up, but no response. I watched his breathing hole for over 30 minutes, but nothing. He must have passed yesterday during the day. I am heartbroken, my little "Snagglemonster", is gone...

Thank you, ladies. You were always there for me when I needed advice and want you to know how much I appreciated all your help. I feel like a little kid, but I can't stop crying. He was doing so well and then just gone. I almost feel like he died from being alone, but never was able to find a mate for him.

The memorial you dedicated to Snagglepuss is beautiful, but based on that I know that this must be a hard loss for you.

Thank you Kocel and Cashell. Such a small little creature who brought so much joy! I could sit for hours watching his little acrobatics on some days. His favorite plant were small pieces of privet hedge that I kept in his tank; that's the leaf he's resting on. I put his little body on the leaf, covered it with soil from his tank and will bury his body in my cousin's backyard in a little patch that I use for flowers and herbs. He was rescued in Long Beach, NY a few weeks before Superstorm Sandy hit in 2012. After that storm, I never saw another snail. It was only a few weeks ago that I learned I could wake him by stroking his shell. It was so cute to watch him uncurl as I pet him and he would poke out his little head, with his little Snaggle "hello"! You always remember your first with the most endearment. 💘

Sorry for your loss, I dread the day I lose one of my snails. Just take comfort you gave him a good life and cared well for him. Most snails don't get that.

Thank you, Jade and alethesnail. I was always worried about Snaggle, wondering if I was doing "this or that" just right. First thing in the morning and last thing before going to bed was to check on him. If I'm lucky enough to find another, I am going to make sure there are at least two, so they can keep each other company. The only thing I feel I did "wrong" was never finding another snail for Snagglepuss to have as company. Our state does not allow selling across state lines and no matter how many times I've searched, I could never find another one. I really believe he died from loneliness. Last month I thought I found a couple of mates for him petsnails.proboards.com/thread/14895/finally-sneggle-snaggle but they were Vallonia_pulchella (teensy-tiny snails), not suitable for Snaggle. After a few days, I didn't see them anymore. They may still be in the soil of the smaller tank, but I think they passed too. I don't dare post how old I am, but like a little kid, I thought he'd live forever (or at least 10 years or so) and it really hit me hard.

I cried myself when I saw this... I've lost two of my Fulicas in the past few months. It seems like they leave for no reason. Although, both of mine died from retraction. Xx

You didn't do anything wrong, you searched for a mate and thats all you can do! I'm 25 years old and play in a metal band but that doesn't mean I won't cry when one of my guys goes. Theres nothing wrong with feeling sad when something you are emotional attached to passes on, its just human nature.

exactly I'm in my 40's n still cry when a snail passes on. I get really attached to them and its perfectly normal as you've cared for them and they share part of your life.

Thanks, alethesnail. You are kind. The softest guys I know are hard-core bikers. Heavy metal is no exception to the soft heart rule. (...whispering: pssst... don't tell anyone, but I am more than twice your age...)_@/

So sorry for your loss. At least Snaggle was lucky enough to have a kind and caring owner like you to take care of him.
