Is it normal for a snail to make weird facial expressions?
I've noticed that Lilly does this quite often.
She will just sit in the bottom of the tank with her body half extended. Then, she makes her eye sockets parallel and does this thing with her mouth as if she is upset.
Lilly can stay in that position for hours. I know it's not poop, so what is it? I've also noticed that babies doing it too.
Could it mean that they are stressed out?

My snails do that too, the giants not so much but Cepaea and Arianta definitely do. They also sometimes spin the eyeballs if you look closely. I'm not sure what exactly it means but I've figured it must be a negative expression, it seems passive aggressive to me. I could be wrong though. Edit: just remembered a time when my Arianta did this face a LOT compared to today. Back then they were in a temporary box with nothing to do and few places to hide. What do you have in the tank?

I've been struggling to find proper decorations for the tank so there isn't really anything in there besides a water dish they swim in and some food.

Ah, that matches my observation then. I'm sure your snails will be in a better mood once you decorate the tank. See these plastic fruit? They're sold in pet stores as hamster hides (so you can be sure they're safe for pets). I have discovered my small snails LOVE them. Plus they're easy to wash if they get poop on them (which they do, as the snails really like to sleep inside them).

Thanks so much! Lilly is always the emotional one and Caracol is just chill about everything. Maybe because I've had him so long? Still love the expressions though, really cute!

I've witnessed all sorts of expressions over the years that I'd never imagine snails could make!

It's really cool to see. I remember the time Caracol tried banana for the first time. I cut a piece and put him next to it. It looked like he was smelling it. Then, he went closer and took a tiny bite. He hated it because he made the cutest "this is disgusting" face ever and he detached his body from the banana slice and turned around. It was so funny! XD

Exactly what I would call it too. Lilly has been so sassy since the day I got her.
Never satisfied... :/

Well you might guess now why one of my first snails was called Old Grumpy. Snaily facial expressions are hilarious though, poor little darlings, looking so funny to the human eye when they're not impressed.

I thought I would share with you some of Marrow my Margy Bulldozers exciting day, as you can see in one of the photo's he makes some great facial expressions and his antic's can be pretty amusing as well . Enjoy Zorst Marrow the biggest Bulldozer and stealth Snail on his SECRET ( or not so secret) spying mission to check out how to take over the flower pot and the new biggest snails bath. Marrow as of yet undiscovered taking a good look at what's going on in the flower pot Marrow his darstedly plan completed now using eye stalk waving and sign language to chase all the other snails out of his newly claimed flower pot! Marrow after claiming his new flower pot relaxing with his many fans the Baby bulldozers and having some dinner. Finally after sharing dinner with his adoring fans the baby bulldozers Marrow tries to slime off to the big bath next to his new flower pot for a bath and relax. Marrow finally asleep in his new flower pot after a busy time snailing, spying and claiming his new home then meeting his adoring fans. ( this is the same flower pot I just rescued the box of eggs from the top of it and moved them to safety away from Marrow and also added some more moss.)

Update: Marrow woke to a big surprise . His adoring fans the baby Bulldozers had hatched there own dastardly plan . They have invaded Marrows new lair and set up home in his new flower pot home over nite whilst he slept. Marrow woke up to find himself covered in all the Baby bulldozers crammed into his new flower pot. His facial expressions were priceless . We wait with baited breath now to see what he does, at the moment he's extracted himself from the pile of Baby bulldozers in his flower pot and slimmed over to the bath to sit n relax whilst he thinks up his next plan.
