Help! Rough patches on shell and color peeling? (Edit: Pics)

Kurtis' shell has some sort of rough white and black growth/patch on it (on the back of the rounded area just before it spirals in), I can't figure out what it is or if it's harmful to him...also there are parts of his shell peeling (the dark color is peeling off and revealing a much lighter color beneath)

He's still pretty active, but it looks like something I should be concerned about

We've had Kurtis since my husband rescued him from his restaurant nearly 2 years ago

He has cuttlefish bone, and I haven't used soil in his tank at all because I was afraid of getting the wrong kind so he's been living in moss (with a bridge, a castle, and a water dish)

I can't find anything online about this so any help is greatly appreciated

also what breed of snail is Kurtis. Ive had the same thing happen to my Helix Aspersa and I think it comes with age. I had three extremely old snails come up with that problem but im still not sure if that is the case

Thanks! I've edited the post now to include a picture. I think he's a Helix Aspera but I'm not sure (included a picture of what he looked like before in case anyone can clarify for me)

Does the Light colored part of the shell seem to be weaker in any way? If it is weaker he may need more calcium, If it is as strong as his original shell he should be fine. Sometimes my snails get it near the bottom of their shells if they have been crawling around alot. the older snails get it everywhere:)

Yes, my little one, Buddy has the same thing on his shell. Almost like he's missing a few layers on his shell. I have cuttlefish bone and egg shells in with him??? I guess I just have to wait and see
