So as the title says, next September I will likely be going away to a university 3 hours away from where I live and will be staying on campus there. My parents have agreed to take care of my other animals, but given that they're not really fond of my snails and what goes in to taking care of them, I don't want to burden them with my three GALs - so what do I do? Luckily I'm not going away until next year so I've got some time to work out a game plan, but I'd love any suggestions so I can stop worrying about this. I've got three options so far: - I could give them to a friend to look after along with her own GAL, but this only works if she isn't going away to university as well so might not be possible - Give them to the pet store to look after for me, but I'm worried they'd just sell them on and I'm honestly putting this as a last resort
Or I could take them to uni with me. They have a no-pets policy but part of me is thinking I could try and convince them to allow snails because this policy is mostly because of noise/allergies/smell or disturbance and well, snails are silent, no one but me will be near them, I clean them regularly and no one but me has to see them - but will my potential university see it that way? Or I could ignore the policy and take them anyway, but I'd rather not be kicked out of uni over three giant African land snails
Any one have any ideas? Thank you in advance

I say take them with and don't tell anybody. Hide the terrarium somewhere in your dorm, like behind a hung blanket or something. I took everything I have to college, but then again I lived in my own apartment. Still would've taken my snails even if I had to live in a dorm though.

Yeah agree with Maxim to take them with you, I remember in my college days eon ago people had snakes; some boa constrictors escape in dorm and the Foreign students from Asia caught them and cook rock pythons for us with peanut sauces--delicious. The Regent never kick the offending owners off campus being the logic that it provided the necessary cross cultural experiences preparing students for a global world 30 years later and those popular drunken study abroad programs were I learn how to make corn beer in Malawi!
Don't see having a beer keg party Mascot would offend any coeds; just stay away from those political correct students or West African Students being its a popular Nigerian protein in groundnut sauces!😭🐌

Find a trustworthy friend/relative that loves animals of all sorts, and one that you know for sure isn't going to post secondary school. If you can't do this, then you'll either have to just give or sell them to a local pet shop. You can also consider Helixpomatia's advice if you don't wish to part with them.

Maybe someone from the forum could take them from you as well, or find someone in your area on one of the facebook GALS groups. Probably better than a pet store.

Heya, not sure if youre still looking for advice but I took my gals I uni I didn't ask 1st year and just hid the tank in the cupboard when they announced inspection, and in second year I ask the landlord who just said they're ornaments more than pets so it didn't matter if I had them, as long as they're not in like a massive unhidable tank you should be fine xx

Thank you picklepies, I reckon I'm just going to take them with me, the tank they've got at the minute is reasonably flat and hideable so it should be fine c:

I took my two when I lived in uni halls and they never got any raised eyebrows or complaints even though they ewere in plain view through two room inspections. Should be fine.
