Hi everyone,
I have had a 10-gallon for a good eight years now but since moving to college it has been too much for me to keep up with. I stopped restocking it a few years ago and I am down to one lonely ruby nerite snail.
I have been researching how to release them but haven't found any information specific to their species, other than the fact that they can survive in all types of water but are not found naturally in the Atlantic (which is the ocean I live near).
Would he be better off in a lake, brackish lagoon, river, or somewhere else? My tank is freshwater and he's lived in there for four years or so.
And should I set him in the shallows of the shore, drop him in the middle, etc.? From what I can tell, this is a very tough snail, but I'm really not sure what to do and don't want to be careless. I wish I could release him where there will be other nerites.
Alternatively, if anyone is looking for a ruby nerite to care for, let me know.

You should not release any animal or plant that's not native to your area. And since it's not found naturally in the Atlantic it wouldn't be very good to release it into a lake or brackish lagoon in the area either. You never know what the end result may be (invasive species, hybrid displacement, disease introduction, etc.).
Please be ecologically responsible and see if you can find another aquarium keeper to give it to, or a petstore that will take them (I have seen that even common stores like Petsmart carry nerites). When I took down my saltwater aquarium before leaving for college I took everything back to the aquarium store.

Thanks! I'll try the pet stores near me.
