Yeah I know, I am sure Komodo does a range of aquatic logs, eBay your best bet. Thats the brand of the food dish and I think I got that from amazon quite cheap. Yeah I tend to get a lot of my pet supplies on amazon. And also, The Range! If you have one near you I recommend checking it out, there's lots of reptile stuff, I got a few nice fake plants for the snails there.

Hello all, I hope everyone is well. Been working on a new setup for Ashoka and Anakin. I ran in to some minor problems, the water feature was cracked and leaking at first. I tried some aquarium sealent but it just wasnt curing so yesterday I got the Bitumen paint and my mrs hair dryer "shhhh about hair dryer cant have her finding outout". I painted the cracks with it and so far so good. This setup has a layer of bio balls incase I go bioactive again regarding the soil, weed fabric on top of the bioballs and then a layer of coconut husk. I have a sonoff TH10 for voice activation of the lights via alexa plus it gives me the ambient temperature and humidity. I have a hot end with a heatmat stuck to the right side at the bottom sitting at about 27c the cool end is about 24-25c. Humidity needs a tiny boost sitting about 76% going up to 80% at night. The overall night temperature is 24c as these guys prefer it slightly hotter than other species. The only thing im worried about is I have some rocks in there incase they fall. Here is some pictures, suggestions on improvements are most welcome. Todays dinner is spirulina flake, courgette and green beans..... Hopefully they will both be much happier in this setup given its size being 90 x 45 x 90cm. I am also pleased that the day light bulbs emit UVA & UVB to help keep D3 isues at bay. Hopefully it will help provide more natural growth. I am now going to be working on trying to make it more natural looking as just now I feel it looks to clinical. All the best and I hope you like the setup. MOA.

Very nice setup! I just wanted to point out that a fall from the lid onto one of those rocks could lead to very bad, even fatal shell damage.

Today I am proud to say we have a new addition to the family, a baby Achatina zanzibarica. I dont have a name yet and measures in at only a centimetre in size. The little tip is starting to show some red and its just popped its little head out as we speak! Currently in quarantine plus its far too small to go in with the other 2 snails. Will get some more pictures up when it settles in a bit. All the best, MOA. 🐌

It's clear how much effort you've put into taking care of these guys, their setup is lovely! So good to see Ashoka has some new friends! Substrate could probably do with being a bit deeper, I can't really tell how deep it is from the photos so do forgive me if I'm wrong, but these guys like to burrow so it's a good idea to have your substrate a few inches deep! Some sphagnum moss would also be good for them to hide in, and help to make things look a bit more natural (plus it helps to cushion them if they fall off the sides!).

Cheers 👍 usually the top substrate is a bit thicker but tbh I ran out of it when setting up, next order will include some more.
Regarding burrowing though, they dont seem to be doing it as often as they get older. When young both the A reticulata and A achatina burrowed all the time but the rectic doesnt attempt it at all now and likes to sleep over at the water feature. The A achatina seems to be also breaking the burrowing habit.
Does anyone else notice they dont do this as often as they mature?

Well the good news is I found half a block of coir so I have created a heap for the Achatina achatina to burrow over in the far right hand corner (bottom pic) to the right of the Achatina zanzibarica nursery, some stones round it to make it easier to see. When I get more soil in I will probably make another heap at the back of the vivarium wall and going round the corner of the nursery also. I also picked up a plastic feed bowl designed for kittens as they again have out grown the original, £1.50 in morrisons I put some stones in so it doesn't topple as easy. I will be looking tonight for some leaf litter, usually get it for aquariums and some form of decor to try thicken the top up a bit as its a very tall vivarium as much ad its wide. Tonights dinner is Kale, courgette, carrot and spirulina flake....even I would eat it lol.

Well Anakin found his heap quite quickly. As soon as dinner was finished, right over to it...

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. Quick update and some pictures. The snails are doing really well and growing so quickly. I have now started intrducing very well washed and sterilised wild foods that I usually pick for my tortoise, dandelion etc. I do still feed some produce foods but with them having such a diverse natural diet I thought the wild stuff would provide excellent nutrition. Have a lovely weekend. MOA. P.S see if you can spot the Achatina zanzibarcia

Hi Folks, I have always been rubbish at nomenclature when it comes to snails so I thought I would join this forum to get the best advice when needed. Could someone ID this baby for me, I am more than positive it is a Achatina reticulata, I received it yesterday. Currently around 3cm in size, eating well. The snail is living in a plastic storage tub. The Temp is around 26-27c with a humidity of 70 - 75%. The snail when large enough will be housed in an exo terra 90x45x90cm. Soil wise I am using exo terra plantation soil (coconut husk) this is bioactive with some exotic woodlice. I was going to add springtails but thought they may irritate the snail. If you would be kind enough to confirm a full ID. Thanks again, MasterOfArts. Can't help with the ID, just had to tell you how absolutely adorable that little one is!! That face! I wish they were legal in the US good luck with your question, wish I knew more about these guys- maybe Ken day!
