Hi drawaphy, I suppose it´s just a question of gene activity (epigenetics): most of the genes we know can be switched on and off. Genes for the biosynthesis of pigments lie at the mantle margin (at the opening of the shell) and sometimes have a complicated activity pattern, which varies in space and time. So the different colour patterns develop......... . I've seen many Cornu aspersum similar to your specimen and it`s hard to imagine (at least for me) that all these specimens are chimeras.

Hi drawaphy, I've seen them in some mediterranean countries - so sorry, no pictures. I brought some specimens home, but due to an actual renovation of my whole appartment I live in an absolute chaos since three weeks and can't find a single shell . Kind regards: wolf
