Hello!
I found this very helpful forum while spending a week and a half researching snails for my toddler. He found a "family" of snails on our porch that he dubbed Mommy snail, Daddy snail, and baby snails. He was heartbroken when I told him we had to put them back. I have always kind of liked snails and I am a sucker for my baby XD
Thus began our (my) journey into keeping snails as pets.
We now have a small 1 gallon fishtank that has been modified (extra air holes and secure top) that houses 2 medium size garden snails and the newest edition, a teeny tiny baby.
As far as I can tell we have 2 Anguispira Alternata Dilbert "dad" and Treat their adopted baby who the 3 year old hasn't given a gender yet XD "mom" is Snailey who from what I can tell is a Mesodon Zaletus. Dilbert is WAY more active, but apparently Snailey is aglutton for watermelon. Dilbert is almost always chowing down on the eggshells I powdered for them to use as calcium. They also have some empty snail shells available to them.
If you happen to know anything about either of these species (especially the Mesodon Zaletus) feel free to hit me up as info is sparce! We just found them in the yard. So far winging it (specific foodwise) has worked out alright. They have survived 2 weeks or so in captivity.
