Looks like a pretty typical ramshorn to me, I have some of a similar kind. I don’t think they are magnificent rams (unless they are absurdly huge, how big are they?)

That’s pretty big, they sound like a giant variety, but they don’t appear to have they deep grooves of a magnificent ram. I must say that I am a little bit puzzled, I know of some people who have a lot more knowledge on them then me so I will talk to them about it and see what they think, do you mind if I share your photos?

I must say they are some very beautiful snails, wild caught rams are always prettier then tank bred in my opinion.

Thanks! I can't did anything about what types of ramshorn live in Ontario so I'm not shire what kind they could be and I can't find pictures of giant ramshorn that have the same shell colours either so I still don't know what kind they are yet. Can you ask if missnoodle knows what kind his are?

Can you help me finding out what is ring with some of their babies shells? I noticed that some of the babies shells have colour and some don't. The problem is the ones with colour have white sections on their shell where the top layer has chipped off. Do you know why this is happening and how to fix it. It has benn happening for a while to.

Offer them a really high calcium diet, they need a lot of calcium to develop their shells as babies. I would recommend making some snello (snail jello), it’s high calcium and high protein (which is good for them at this stage in life). Also keep up on weekly water changes, bad water quality is the worst thing for them. Could you post some pics?

That’s not to serious, many wild snails have some of that, just make sure they have plenty of calcium, but don’t be surprised if the look a little like that for the rest of their life. It’s often caused by inconsistency in calcium so their shell grows kinda uneven. Just offer them a good diet, if they are acting healthy and cruising around the tank then don’t worry about it. Part of it is often genetics too, some snails are born with that look and they are perfectly healthy and have a good diet, that’s just how they are.

Ok thanks! I was also wondering why some of them have colour and some don't. The other thing is all the ones with colour have the white spots and the ones that don't have no white spots. I know they aren't just to young to have colour because they are bigger than the ones with colour.

A lot of it is genetics, I’ve got a couple like that, many of them get better with a high calcium diet but they always have a little bit of that coloration.

I have some other information on these that might help you identify them. To start their eggs are different in size and colour. The eggs start out orange and turn clear as they get closer to hatching. They are also very big. I have seen other kinds of ramshorn snail eggs and they are super small compared to mine. The ranged in size a little but they go from a little smaller than a dime to a little bigger than a dime. They also didn't breed for very long. I found them in July and they started laying eggs after only having them for 3 days and kept laying them for approximately a week to two weeks. Then they just stoped laying them here is a picture of the last egg cluster.https://ibb.co/yqFLvMY I circled them in the picture. I don't know why they would lay so many eggs then just stop like that. There was no environmental changes either. And usually ramshorn snails will reproduce more on more food and their diet was changed about 2 months after the stoped laying eggs to something a lot more nutritional for snails but still no more eggs. I'm not worried about this though because I don't need any more of them. They already have more babies than my tank should have so I am rehoming some of their babies. I have also noticed that when I found them their shells where clear but over time they got colour. Now they are brown with a white stripe. That is what most wild ramshorn snails have but the difference with mine is that they are in there shell they look dark blue with a light blue stripe. Here is some pictures of one sleeping far into his shell so you can see what colour it's shell is near the opening. ibb.co/NLf88K6ibb.co/GR8X8fgAnother thing I noticed is how few of them their where. In the pond they came from. Their where lots of great pond snails and another kind of snail but very few of the ramshorn snails. I could only find 4 of them. I don't know how they got their or where they came from either because the pond they came from is a artificial pond created for fishing. They also for some reason lose the ability to crawl on water when they get older. As babies around 2 weeks old they start to crawl around on the top of the water with their foot. This isn't unusual for ramshorn snails because other kinds of ramshorn snail cans do it to like the marsh ramshorn snail. But the difference with these is that they lose that ability when they get older. All of them can't do it anymore but occasionally one will try but they never succeed. I hope that this will help you identify them.

The eggs look pretty normal (that’s what mines eggs looked like). Having color changes and getting more color after being in captivity is normal and a good thing, it means they are getting healthier and more colorful from a stable diet and being cared for properly. As long as they have a healthy diet and you have good water perimeters (a cycled tank), then don’t worry about them, they look very healthy (so do the eggs). As for what variant of ramshorn they are, I can’t say, they look like pretty typical wild rams.
