Hello!
I have a helix aspersa who has been hiding in his shell for the past three or four days. I’ve placed him on some lettece, but he hasn’t moved at all. I think I recently had a mite problem so I entirely cleaned out the cage, put in new soil, and cleaned the snails. Is this something normal that will eventually resolve or should I be worried?

Does he have a smell? If so, he's died. Otherwise, maybe he's just sleeping / hibernating. My snails will sometimes sleep for a day or two when it gets really cold.

I agree with snerdahmik
Also, lettuce is pretty low in nutrition. Foods such as sweet potatoes, zucchini, bloodworms, dark leafy greens (like spinach, chard, kale and beet greens) offer a lot more nutrition and sustainment.

Also, lettuce is very low in nutrition. Not really true. Lettuces like little gem, Romaine, round lettuce, oakleaf lettuce, Batavia etc with darker green leaves have a decent amount of vitamins/minerals/phytochemicals. Lettuce with lighter green leaves such as iceberg have less nutrition but do still contain some vitamins A & C, calcium, iron etc. As long as they have a balanced diet in general and are also fed other appropriate foods, there's nothing wrong with snails being given lettuce regularly as part of their diet.

He doesn't have a smell, so hopefully he's just hibernating. Right now he's got butter lettuce, kale, sweet potato, mealworm, corn, and a variety of ground nuts. Also cranberries. Under what conditions do they hibernate? My other two aren't, they've been chilling out of their shells for a while now. I've separated the possibly hibernating one just in case, hopefully he'll get better

Sounds like he’s getting a good diet. If it’s cold enough they will hibernate, mine didn’t start really hibernating till it got below 50°, but I’ve heard that some start start hibernating when it’s as warm as 60-65°

I do know that darker lettuces like Romain and such are pretty high in nutrition, but I was speaking of iceberg and similar lettuces (I’ve read from a lot of sources that iceberg and such is pretty nutritionally lacking). I will keep what you said in mind in the future.
