So recently a got an indoor terrarium. I decided to bring three of my little helix aspersas inside to live in it. They are aveastating, and they won’t wake up. I went outside and dig them up. I then brought them inside and rinsed them in some room temperature water and gently set them in their terrarium. They haven’t moved. They still have a thick coating of dried mucus in their shell openings. What can I do to coax them to wake up?

Ok, be VERY VERY VERY careful, but poke it with something dull like a pencil and peel it off. Even if you mist them, they might not wake up because of the thick epiphragm preventing moisture from getting inside. You'd have to wait for them to decide it's time to wake up and eat it.

I have done that (did it about an hour or two ago) with a knitting needle (big, extremely dull needle) and they still haven’t emerged. Just a few minutes ago I gently pulled the membrane apart and exposed a little more of them and misted the again. Still waiting. I placed them on a pile of boiled peas and carrot.
The temp in the house has been between 68 and 71 today, is that warm enough?

Okay, the one I exposed the most has a little bit of his foot sticking out now, I think he is eating a way the rest of the membrane. Does that mean I should try to expose the other ones more so they will want to come out?

And one has emerged! He’s the littlest of the ones I brought inside. Meet smudge Boots and Madagascar aren’t quite ready to come out.

Mine always groom themselves and eat the rest of the epiphragm upon waking up. It should be fine to do that with the others as well.

I do have one little problem, he is completely uninterested in the food. He climbed to the top of the tank then went into his shell to take a nap. Maybe there is just to much light in my bedroom and he is waiting till dark (since he is nocturnal).

He's probably just going back to bed and will eat later tonight. They're late night snackers!!
