I'm going to go for this group, which had the following ideas:
Competitions, information to general public, publicity etc...
Who will join me in talking about what we can do about this?

I could design leaflets and create a Livejournal on snail care

What kind of livejournal did you have in mind?
I had wondered if we could post a snail photo in some famous pet competiton online, to get people to start seeing snails as pets.

I would love to help out where-ever is required. I intended doing something towards the group a cvouple of months back and things (life) happened, but yes I would like to get involved. I'm very interested in the scientific side, but also all sides of this group.

The newsletter has a thread of it's own.
How about organising a competition?

I´m really thinking in making here a public exposition also with snails ( alive and shells) ( I´m already working on setups presentation, location and permission paper). I´m also planning a book about snails ( me and a malacologist from here).

Sounds fantastic apple. Get plenty of photos to include in the newsletter. Does anyone know of good online pet photo sites? I really do think we need to start raising awareness out there!

Well as most of you know, my pc broke, so I have been unable to do anything about this. It is on my mind as soon as I can get back.
Just wanted you all to know I haven't forgotten or given up......yet!

Ok, so how do we begin to get the general public interested in snails as cute animals and not pests or food?

Some people will become interested if they learn about how the snail lives its life, its biology, it's not a "bug", etc. Scientific things but written for the layman. Once they learn some facts, they will understand the creatures a little more.
Other people will be won over by cute pics. Baby snails are surprisingly cute. ;D

I have waited a while to see what response there was to the groups and the ISS. I see now that although there are many who would be interested, it is necessary to keep on asking and suggesting. There is no feedback or ideas. I am therefore abandoning this idea at present. Thank you to those that were interested.

Thanks to you both. It is not fair to say this is anyone's fault. I have as little time as anyone else too. I just thought that if we shared this goal, then between us all we could achieve it. However I can not do this alone, or even between three or four of us. I just haven't the time. Sorry.

Well, I'm not sure exactly what our target audience is? Laypeople (parents of kids with snails)? Snail enthusiasts themselves? People who study natural history more seriously? Our target audience is going to determine how any articles are written, what kind of terminology is used, what kind of things to write about, etc. Sorry if this was already determined; if so, I must have missed it in all the posts.
