how big do achatina smithii actually get?

Medium sized. I don't think they often surpass 9 cm.

oh thats a shame. mines growing so fast and his shell is so beautiful. he's about 8cm now.

I'm not 100% on this, Fredrik's are smallish and Christabel says between 5 and 9 cm on her site.

its just that when i talked to the italian person i got my first smithii from she claimed hers reached 15cm!

That is why I said I wasn't 100% sure, my investigations seemed to suggest 2 different snails. I now think it is possible that albopicta get confused with smithii and that is where the larger size came from. Found this extra.... "Achatina smithii (Preston, 1906) - This species is not as large as Achatina fulica, reaching an adult shell length of around 8-12cm."www.freewebs.com/worldofsnails/giantafricansnails.htmBut a quick search of google provided a few 15cm claims.

I have had larger A.smithii. The one I'm about to sell now is +8cm and still growing... I don't think anyone would argue that they aren't A.smithii.
