Would like to understand Iredalei better, wondered if it would be possible for anyone who keeps them to dump some information in this thread for me Such as, Substrate/tank furnishings/environment kept in? Glass or plastic container? Ventilated heavily or very little? Whether standing water is provided? Heat? Food accepted, including any favourites? Adult shell lengths? How often they breed successfully/produce young? Survival rate of young? Whether they tend towards burrowing or climbing? Plus anything else you can think of which is unique to them. Any info much appreciated

I've just received one from Brian, and I'm keeping it the same way I do my others. I think they get to 9 - 10 cms but I'm not sure. The tank he's in has capillary matting on the bottom, then a load of moss for it to hide under. He has a piece of cuttlefish and that's about it. There's no water bowl at the moment, but he will have one when he gets bigger and is moved into a tank that I can fit a bowl in! lol So far he's only had lettuce, but I think they will eat everything else too. (Brian said they're pigs lol) It's a little plastic container, here's a pic for you (it was taken when my Fulica were in it so ignore the contents lol): There's no heat, as my room stays around the 24 - 26 area. But I have some heat mats now incase it gets very cold in the winter. Uhm.. that's all I can answer I'm afraid lol Hope I've helped a little. Oh, one quirky thing mine did the other day was hitch a ride on a baby Dimidiatas back lol.

Hi I've got 2 iredalei (in seperate tanks as they are mature now) 1 is in glass, 1 in plastic with a sphagnum moss substrate, decor is the usual, plant pots and a fish tank bridge ornament! Kept damp as with any others. Ventilated umm, 1 is a glass tank with a completely solid lid, so the only ventilation is at the corners. Works very well though. Other is the plastic 'bug' tanks, the whole lid is full of holes but I have to keep a damp flannel over 3/4 of the lid cos I find its too much and the tank dires out in a couple of hours. None of my snails have a water dish. No extra heat. My whole flat stays at 20-25. Food accepted by iredalei, hahahahahahaha EVERYTHING! Honestly, mine eat whatever you put in front of them. Little dustbins they are. All fruit, veg, salad I've tried, and chicken mash, hemp, pumkin seeds, dog biscuits, beer. Adult shell is, apparently 5-9cm. Mine are adults cos I've seen them randy, they are 6 and 6.5cm. Don't know about breeding, but judging by Mikes iredalei offspring - ALOT. Survival rate is good as far as I know. Mine generally climb and sleep on the lid, but I have seen them bury at times. In my experience - Very nice, easy snails to keep Nat

Can't really add too much to that, except mine two are not as interested in reproducing themselves as other peoples iredalei's.Twice I have found eggs while they are live bearing, don't know what that means. They usually hang of the lid and sometimes burrow themselves but thats when it gets colder. No problems with eating, they even eat the fern in the tank lol.

hi pigeon,
iredalei basically need the same care as fulica (maybe spray the tank a little more). Their favourite food is sweet potato. Mine never burrow they sleep on the side of the tank. My biggest is nearly 8cm.

My experience is very different,
Ive got 2 adult, about 9cm. They enjoy bathing in warm water, have a heat mat and are currently on capillary but have been on peat before. Will happily take crushed oyster shell or cuttle bone but are incredably picky about what they will and will not eat. Rarely do they eat every night, have gone completely off cucumber which they used to at least eat the skin of. Wont touch lettuce, will take some chickcrumb and fruit mash. Reasonably active, spend all thier time on the sides of the tank or in moss.
But Ive never managed to get them to breed.
Im just wondering whats up with thier eating habits/lack of interest in eachother. Just wanted to compare with everyone else.
Cheers for the info, has been very useful, still cant decide what the main factor for thier seeming discomfort is however.

I have three non adult iredaleis wich I keep with my very young f. rodatzii. Usually the iredaleis sleep under the top of my tank. They are very busy at night and love the water basin. I have seen them pulling salad into the bowl to eat it there and sometimes they fall asleep hanging half in the water. For food they prefer cucumber skin (which goes very well with the rodatzii who love the cucumber-inside =)), but will eat anythingelse they can get. They are the only ones that never made me worry about them. One last thing about the tank: temperature is 22-26°C during the day and 22-20°C during the night ; cocos humus substrate 5cm ; moisture 90% ; a water basin ; a water bowl ; spahgnum moos, some plants and a big branch

My tank is entirely spagnam moss and my iredalei always burrows deep into it to sleep.
