I was wondering just what types there are, and what the differences between them are. is it just colouring?

A.f. rodatzi, which is lighter coloured A.f. umbilicata, which has a large last whorl A.f. rufescens, which has more reddish stripes also found a A.f.sinistrosa,but don't know much about it unless they named a leftcoiled fulica that way.

Hmm, I was wondering what mine were, one of them has almost a checkerboard pattern, in creamy beige and brown. I will have to google those names and see what I find. Thank you!

Yes lisalg, just like that. I think it is a most beautiful pattern. Doesn't matter if they are standard Fulica, I had just been curious. Thanks for the info. I was also wondering because of my new little guys that i rescued on saturday. They could be fulica, but thought they might be a sub species. Their shells are badly worn and damaged so can't really tell what colour they used to be. When I wet their shells you can see something that looks like streaky light brown, and they refuse to let me look at their collumnella (sp).
