Sorry, I hope I put this in the right place. I need to know if the Kentish snail (Monacha cantiana) is native to the UK, or at least is found there. I am trying to find an answer, but no such luck! I read they are native to the USA, so I guess if they are in the UK they aren't native. They look like this:

Aww, darn! I was actually hoping that species wasn't found there because I had the idea of bringing a few over if Defra says it's alright. Oh well, thank you!
If it was at least hard to find I would bring some over...any chance there is another American species I could keep an eye out for while im here? I know there are no regulations on importing invertebrates, unless they are considered a potential pest of course. But you guys have the African Giant Land Snails, so I have a feeling it can be done.

Did you want to bring snails over here to keep as pets, or to release into the wild?

Where exactly in the States are you?

As pets of course, I would never release a non-native species into the wild. Kansas City, Missouri. The snail in the picture above is a snail I have seen quite a bit near my parents house, but ive never seen another variety. I have already E-mailed DEFRA, and hopefuly they can let me know if snails can be imported with no problem. *fingers crossed* Only problem is, im not very good at tracking down snails, or slugs for that matter. But we have a wooded area within walking distance, and i'll have a look if they say it's alright to bring some over. Just trying to take advantage of an opportunity

i get Monacha cantiana in my garden. They're really bad as pets though.
sorry I don't know much about american snails, but i wouldn't bother bringing any through customs, if you live in europe you can get ur hands on any number of species.

Really? Neat! Shall have to look into that. Does it matter where GALS come from though? Sense they are legal in the UK and all?

I was just wondering because there's a species I think is very beautiful, but the only person I can find that has them is someone in Russia.

Yes, you read me like a book. I'll make a post about them under Classifieds, I hope that's the right place.

Yes, you read me like a book. I'll make a post about them under Classifieds, I hope that's the right place. Many people have asked for varicosa on here, no one on this forum currently keeps them, and since they're only from South Africa they're more difficult to find for sale wildcaught than snails from West and East Africa,

Oh I see. I figured they were more difficult for one reason or another. I wonder if I should delete my post about them, I would hate to sound redundent if a lot of people are after them.
