I think a dog-sized snail would be cool.

Haha Yeah! We've got the DVD, just not watched it in ages. Those clips put a smile on my face, thanks for that , the second one especially. My youngest lad also fell in love with those slugs a couple of years ago so I made him some soft toy slugs based on those (but hush don't tell - I'll be sued over copyright! teehee).

I read an advert which said GALS for sale, as big as an adult human. Sadly a word had been missed out (hand) but that would have been something!

@ Coyote (and anyone interester) ahh I know arnt they Me, my wife and kids already have 3 Golapagos Tortoise, 2 Yellow Belly Sea Snakes and 2 Yellow anaconda We plan to get the Iguanas next summer if I can afford to get back to Mexico to be with the wife and kids for 8 month (our usual arangment). If your wondering, I have Citizenship in both Mexico and England, but am in England strictly to earn money to set me, wife and family up over in Mexico (Wife is Mexican, kids are 50% Mexican 50% British, Im British "now Mexican to"). Usualy I spend about 8 month in Mexico, then 8 Month in england. Unfortunatly I had a hard time getting a job when I got back to England this year so its going to be longer than the 8 month When I go to Mexico me and the wife Travel (Drive) to different countries. most middle east and surounding countrys have very laid back customs that allow you to take animals from their country (for the right price). We took 8 Galapagos Tortoise eggs from Ecuador, 3 hatched (ALL MALES) we plan to go back their for more eggs during my next visit and then drive thrugh Columbia and take a ferry over to Cuba to hopefully find and catch some young Cuban Iguanas.... the Anacondas were both taken by us from Venezuela (1 Male, 1 Femail, no eggs laid yet) and the Yellow bellied sea snakes were taken from Baja California (Mexico). The sea snakes are kept in a very large sand based marine enclosures watter covi ng 100% of the sand (deapest part of enclosure 1.3M water/shallowest part of enclosure 3-4cm water) The snakes rarely come into the most shallow part of their enclosure because they realy preffer to be coverd with water at all times (in the picture is a rare occurence, most likely posed) these have bread and sucessfully given birth many times We have deals set up for their young and their sold as marine tank pets to Japanese and American pet trade.... Their highly venomouse and me and my wife have suspicions about the American pet trade that buy the snakes (we think they may be black markets sellers. Partly because of the fact that they drive to us from the US rather than taking flight). The japanese have only came to us once however but are legal pet traders with licences to export dangerouse live stock from Mexico

All that travel sounds wonderful. Sadly, there is a huge black market trade in exotic animals in the US. I've been to sanctuaries for big cats rescued from horrendous neglect and abusive situations, and their stories are heartbreaking. It's certainly possible that the people you were dealing with were part of the black market, but who know for sure.

After watching the film Troll Hunter the other day, I would love the troll that looked like a cross between a penguin and a proboscis monkey. Don't know how I would get it in the house!

My dream pet, for several years now, has been a Giant African Land Snail. Unfortunately, they're quite illegal in the US, even though they can't survive the winters in most of the country. -_- Yet nobody ever complains about the sparrows, starlings, feral cats and other REAL non-native pests that are such a detrimental problem here and can survive in nearly any conditions.

It's such a shame malacophile! I always feel bad for Americans that can't have African snails The "war" on "invading African snails" in America was a complete flop in my opinion, that involved killing off a lot of your native snails. There are a lot of Florida snails that I wish I could have though!

I'd like a dog, though having one would be impossible in my current apartment.
I don't agree with keeping wild animals. I feel badly enough about my snails not being able to wander around in the wild, though at least I'm keeping my ones from reproducing out there (helix aspersa are a non-native pest in Australia).

For Christmas my nephew is getting me a few Hermit crabs . I have wanted to get some for a long time. Does anyone on the forum have Hermit Crabs and any good tips on looking after them? Any help would be appreciated. You can always google information but I have noticed everyone on this forum has a lot of helpful information that you don't find on the Internet. Vallery

Thank You malacophile , I will definitely check out the site you suggested. I want to get as much information before my nephew brings the Hermit Crabs, which is in about three weeks, so I can care for them properly. vallery
