Congrats on the newborns, and don't be too hard with yourself about the little one. It was a tragic incident and I am sure in the future you will be even more careful. I know very well how you feel, because the same incident occurred to me as well, when a few weeks ago a tiny baby Helix just a couple of mm long ended up squished under the lid of the tank. I thought I had removed them all but this little guy escaped me. It was very horrible. What comforts me is knowing that in the wild the majority of them would not have even survived that long - and instead, cared for in captivity they get better chances of a longer, healthier life. It does not erase my guilt, but make me focus on the positive aspect of raising little snails into adulthood.

Similar accidents would occur in the wild, maybe not exactly the same. I still feel bad, but as you say, I'm now extra vigilant. Sorry to hear about your little helix, I daresay he's gone to snail heaven
