Very sorry I didn't see this, and no one else did either. Our more experienced members (incl. those who are much better than I am) seem to most be somewhere else. White spots on snails can be scar tissue, even more possible if the shell damage is near. Does this make sense? Hi, thanks for the reply. It could be scar tissue then. His shell was badly damaged all over. It doesn't affect his breathing tho.

How is the snail doing? I was thinking, maybe you could hang some damp towel or something over his container. Leave some air holes open. Maybe the cold water on the towel might reduce the temperature?

Aren't there any cooler places in your house? Like over here when it's very hot, my toilet, basement and bathroom are the coolest. I wouldn't put ice in it. I've read somewhere that snails can go into shock when there are huge temperature changes.

Maybe you can try to place him a bit cooler. If it's that hot we usually don't go jumping around either. I wouldn't pick him up if i were you. I would not risk more damage to his shell. The snail i have that has been/is recovering has a shell again. But i still don't touch it.

It would be brilliant of the results that come up actually have an answer. I use the search function every time i have a question. Been trough like 20, sometimes 40 pages of results. But often i bump onto a question that is asked, not answer at all, yet it's closed. So there is no answer and no possibility to add your question in since there is a lock on it. Doesn't help much and there are tons of topics like that...I've been using the search option frequently in the last week but haven't found an answer to even half of the questions i have. I'm still looking since nobody answered the ones i did post yet.

Hey, how is your snail doing? Still being quiet? I have one garden snail that is also very inactive and usually sleeps most of the time in his cave. He's mostly out at night i noticed. Maybe yours is to? Sometimes when i wake up at night i see him sliding over the wall of my container so he does come out now and then.

Well the eggs are outside in the meanwhile. Couldn't wait till they start to hatch... I still would like some insight on the food. And some other question. I saw my snail crawling on the side of my tank. I noticed a small weird white spot. It's the snail that is recovering from shell damage if that might have any influence. Does anyone know what this white spot might be?? In case you don't see it, it's next to his breathing hole

I personally can't see a thing on the pictures, they are to vague. It's better to take a pic from a distance than a close up that isn't clear. But i also have a snail who's shell was badly damaged. I placed him in a humid tank with food and sepia. After a few days he began to grow a thin grey layer where the shell was. Over the next few days to week this grey layer started hardening out and formed a new shell. He is still recovering en his shell will never be as beautiful as it was but he's fine. Mine does eat but is less active than the smaller snails i have. I think it's based on the type of snail.

First of all. I used the search function to look for an answer, didn't really find it. But last night one of my snails started laying eggs. I removed them all. He was so kind to put them in one of my plant jars. Now i'm not planning on having a huge snail colony so i want to place the eggs in the wild (my garden maybe). I was wondering, how to do that? Do i also need to burry them? Pick a spot where there are others snails around? Look for a place under bushes or doesn't matter? They are in a tiny glass jar at the moment and are kept moist till i find a solution. My next question. I saw somewhere on here that people give fish or turtle food to their snails. Someone gave them little shrimp. I found some turtle food (brand JBL) and i was wondering if this is safe to give them as proteins? The bottle ingredients say: - proteins: 32%
- fat: 4,5%
- crude fiber: 6,5%
- crude ash: 38%
Website description: - Now with food sticks containing fish!
- Balanced mixture of dried crustaceans, insects and sticks.
- Main food for all turtles, incl. pond turtles, in temperate zones.
- Supplementary food for tropical pond turtles, birds and other carnivorous terrarium animals.
It looks like this:

My Cepaea dug himself in to lay eggs. So maybe check the spot where he was.

Found the rest of the eggs. Picked up a snail that has been at the same spot all day. Seems this one is laying eggs. I hope i didn't disturb it. The eggs are all in a flower pot, lucky me. I don't have to dig tomorrow I think the snail mush have mated while outdoors because i don't have them that long to have eggs already.

I just found 1 egg in my tank. Just one... There is a snail that dug into the soil. He is now like half buried and i expect this one to be the egg legging one. Can u just put the eggs outside? What place is best to put them? I was thinking about a forest maybe? I'm afraid if i let them hatch i will get attached to the tiny snails and end up with dozens of them.

Thanks I got the tank at a local garden/pet center. It's wasn't very expensive. This one has a more closed lit compared to the exo terra ones. It's also a strong plastic and not bendable. I used some of the plants that were on the safe list on this site. The pink one is a polka dot plant, the other a spiderplant and the 3rd is some type of fern. They don't eat the plants as far as i've seen. They do like to climb on them, sleep beneath them or on them (depends on how large the snail is). I try not to look for other snails anymore haha. I always see an other pretty one but 4 is enough atm. The weird thing is that my garden is FULL of snales. Like really FULL. I put a piece of watermelon outside earlier this week. My snails didn't ate the whole thing. And i swear there were like 20-30 snails on my porch. Somehow when i walk down the street, i don't see snails anywhere except for my garden. But a lot of people over here poison snales Most people think it's stupid for me to keep those "worthless animals" in my house. They only look at them as pests to kill and that eat out there garden. They might get a bigger thank in the future tho. A friend of mine builds terrariums and i asked him if he could make one that isn't so pricey as the shop ones.

My snails haven't touched the sepia yet. I tried to put some powdered sepia but they didn't touch it either. Maybe it takes them a while to discover it?

I'm keeping 1 aspersa with a bunch of cepaea and they are doing fine. The different species can't breed with each other. Try might try, but it won't work. Do your cepaea lay a lot of eggs when they are with a few. I kinda got a bit excited when i searched trough my garden and found 2 very very nice cepaea so now i have 3 and one Cornu aspersum. I can't find a lot of info online about them. When i look for care for these snails i only seem to find either scientific papers or 'how to cook snails' websites

It's absolutely fine, their poo will always be the colour of whatever they've eaten. Ah ok, thanks! I was hoping it was the watermelon. I kinda freaked out when i saw that red thing on his stomach. He did eat a lot of watermelon.

I was looking for one of snails when i noticed something red on his body. I took him out and it looked like poo?? He does seem to be fine tho? He ate watermelon, could this be the reason the poo is red? Or is this something serous? Can a snail bleed? I'm a bit afraid something went wrong or he has some illness that can spread to the other snails?

Since i can't post a new question in like all the boards, i'll ask it here... I was wondering if a snail could be lonely even if they are with 2 in a tank. I have 2 different species and they don't seem to hang out together. They also have sleeping patters that are totally different. One is active when the other is asleep and visa versa. I have been looking in my yard for an other Cepaea nemoralis but i'm a bit picky on which one i would like to add. Is it possible that this snail could be more active and happy with a fellow species member? I have been looking outside in the rain because i was looking for a specific color but didn't find it yet (unless i would take a HUGE one but i prefer a younger/smaller one). My garden is filled with babies i noticed but they are all Cornu aspersums.

I have been digging trough the archives. Didn't find an answer. I was wondering how to maintain the tank? I swipe off the poo i see on the sides or lit. It's not always easy to see it on the soil i think? How often do you guys change the soil completely?

I got them a prettier and better place to live. Decorated it with plants that were on the non toxic list and wood that is safe. I covered the cave with dirt so it's also a soft spot + they can crawl over it now.
