The previous competition wasn't concluded, I think that's unfair to those who entered.
If the competitions can't be run properly, with anonymous entries, voting privately by PM and actual awarding of any prizes in a timely manner, I don't think they should be done at all.
ETA: Comps also should have clearly stated start and end dates and times as well, otherwise it isn't fair to the participants.

If the comps are to continue, such parameters need to be spelled out clearly at the time the comp is announced, before entries are submitted. In the interests of fairness, people need to know ahead of time exactly what the ground rules are, otherwise it isn't fair to anyone.
IMO, if a prize is offered it should be awarded even if only one person enters. Even if no prizes are offered, a winner should be chosen and announced even if only one person enters. A comp should not be left to die a slow death no matter how few people enter.

Yes, agreed with Coyote, if people (even if it's only one person) put effort into submitting something then a prize should be awarded and the winner should be announced.
Quite often (not always) with forum competitions people are enthusiastic for the first few and then the enthusiasm dies down - they don't always work out in the end.

Absolutely! I'm all for the competitions reopening; I never got a chance to enter the old ones. Now that I have a camera I know how to use, I'd love to participate.

Actually, I'm afraid that it's unlikely for the comps to reopen anytime soon. So sorry to any who had their hopes up for entering.
If and when they do, it will be announced in this section, though.

totally agree with coyote, competitions and contests should be well thought out and announced and detailed. I myself probably won;t be part of any, as I usually am not that type of person, but you never know.....it is hard to make contest not bias, doing things totally anonymous would help that, but often that doesn't work either as people tend to leave tells, not to mention a lot of us recognize each others snails from previous pictures, either the friends themselves ro the setups, or etc. it really does take a effort to be fair sometimes, and many lack the ability to actually be non partial....and many things are subjective anyways. good luck with it though......it sounds like lots of people have fun with such things, and it would probably bring in more people if it was advertised on the various facebook pages/etc to the forum here and to the hobby.

I would like the competitions to restart. Is it only certain people that can run them?
