Hello everyone! I love ALL animals, and hermit crabs are one of my favourites. ;D At the moment I have three crabitats in use; one 130x45x45 cm and two 60x35x30. In the large crabitat lives two C. brevimanus, one C. compressus, one C. rugosus and one C. clypeatus. My biggest C. brevimanus Mammas Skal, newly molted: The other C. brevimanus is down molting, and the older pictures I have of him is too old, he's a lot bigger now. ^^ I'll take new pictures as soon as he resurfaces. This is my beautiful C. compressus Saturnus: And this is my lovely but VERY pinchy PP (C. clypeatus). I have to hold him with a towel to avoid getting pinched. ;D Ruggies: Right side of their crabitat: My two C. perlatus Almanon and Acosta lives in a 60x35x30 cm tank now (I wasn't prepared for them, so I only had a small tank available when they moved in), but will soon be moved into a larger tank: In the other 60x35x30 cm tank lives two C. brevimanus and four C. rugosus. Here's a very pale C. brevimanus, but he has molted now. This pic was taken the same day I had bought him: The other C. brevimanus: Some of the ruggies: Does someone else on this site keep hermit crabs? What species?

OMG sooooo beautiful!!! Look at those eyes!!!
You have got so many amazing creatures. How do you find time to care for all of them?
Gorgeous crab. Does he bite? I like the red one.

I know the topic is from more than an year ago but I was wondering, are these beautiful crabs hard to take care of? I am thinking to expand my pet horison to more than snails and I find these creatures amazing. How long do they live, what do you feed them and so forth? Thanks in advance.

Hi , Question 2 after motorheadbangers. I'm glad motorheadbanger brought this post back up as my sister is recently very interested in getting a hermit crab. Is there any one species that is the easiest to care for? vallery.

I used to keep these stunning beasties until I moved someplace where the lack of space was an issue. They are harder to care for than the pet stores make it seem and require quite a lot of special consideration, even between species. The easiest to care for is definitely C. clypeatus, also known as the purple pincher. The red ones, known as strawberries, are very delicate and many people can't keep them alive for long. Here's a great forum that's loaded with everything you could want to know about them. www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/index.php
