Apparently they reach sexual maturity at about 10 years and are considered fully grown adults 20-30, we've already discussed who we'll be leaving them to in our wills since they live 50-60 years

it depends on what you would saying 'you pets' as being...i look after and handle lots of animals but have only a few pets.
i HAVE
1 Achatina fulica 3 Indian stick insects several fairy shrimp
but i live on an agricultural and animal college campus so we have everything from pray-mantis to merkats to spiders to monitors lizards to llamas. and all of them are like pets to us =) it's always nice to go and give a cuddle to them and fuss over them.

I have a male syrian hamster named Sammie and 3 female gerbils named Alice, Bella and Esme.
I've had Sammie just over a year now and he was an adult when I got him, so I don't really know his true age. He was a rescue from a garden centre.
Alice, Bella and Esme are also rescues, but they were all youngsters when I got them in August last year. A 'friend's' apparantly male gerbil had 7 babies lol. But when we arranged to bring them half way to meet, she pretty much just plonked all 3 of them in my hands without a carrier or anything and then ran off...I know some friend *sigh*. All three of them were filthy and Esme certainly didn't look right. So as soon as I managed to get a box for them, I whisked them all to the vet.
Thankfully, it only took a little TLC before all 3 were fine and dandy again, and they are still very happily causing chaos lol.
I am hoping to get another GAL (or 2) in the springtime, as currently in my room it's far too cold and my parents won't allow animals anywhere else apart from my room, unless they are kept outside in a shed lol.
Anyway, that's my little lot for now. No where near what some of you have got lol.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread that I have 2 wild mice running around in my kitchen, just tiny ones. It is a constant battle with my cousin who shares a flat with me about his not setting out mouse traps . I am loosing the battle. Is it cruel to catch the mice alive and set them up in a perfectly suitable aquarium or cage that has lots of room and everything they need? They are living in my kitchen and not out doors and eating human food, my snails have all been collected wild from out doors. I know mice aren't the same. Does anyone have any incite on this?

@ vallery. Wild mice get scared very easily and will die of shock I had 40 pet mice when I was younger. Started with 4 then breed them to get 40 lol. Lovely little thing tho. I got a door mouse in my kitchen, lucky my cats are lazy! I've put some traps down to catch him alive and put him back in my garden where he belongs but he's not falling for it lol x hollie

I had the biggest wild mouse I have seen lurking in the house, I caught him with a tilt trap baited with chocolate (eventually). When I took him to the wood to release him he jumped like a kangaroo. If they would just stay in the garden they are doing no harm but the thought of them getting in the food gives me the creeps!

Well it HAS been done, but I wouldn't recommend it. It would be better to trap them and take them far away. I know it's hard not knowing their fate, but there's a chance that they may die of stress, but moreover wild mice do carry plenty of diseases and are very likely to bite. I've kept tame mice, lovely creatures, and like wild mice of course, but in terms of keeping them it's not likely to go well in my opinion. x

I got 1 of them tilt tramps. He chews holes in my dog/cat/hampster & rat food. Have to try & remember not to pick up the bags so all the food pours all over the floor. I've baited the trap wit all the animal food he likes to steal from me & every day I check the trap all the food is gone but no mouse! He's a tiny lill thing. When I moved in my house a yr ago I left a box outside over nite n wen I brought it in he jumped out. Cud I catch him...... no. Do my cats care....... no lol
