I think this would be quiet usefull for those who wish to agree or disagree with someone but dont entirely have anything to say about it. Theirs plenty of posts on this forum with different opinions and some more correct than others. People may not want to gang up on those who are incorrect but at the same time its worth people being able to see how many people agree or disagree with certain things before thinking 'yes il do that' or 'no i wont'. Just a thought

I don;t know if there is anyone on here anymore or has anything to do with this forum that actually does forum mods. not to mention it's proboards, so you can't really do whatever you want.

heh. youtube refers to youtube.com a place that has tons of videos for everything. thumbs up thumbs down refers to something they put in, where you can give the videos a thumbs up if you like it, or a thumbs down if you do not....it is a way to let people know if you approve or not. forum mods means forum modifications. This, where we are talking is a forum made by a forum package called proboards, which only allows people to run a 'place to talk to people' on their computers, basically called 'hosting'. most forum 'programs' allow people to customize them (or people customize them if they are allowed or not.) to add more or different features. these are called mods (modifications.) things like this quick reply box, is a 'mod' from the original forum program/package, the way the menus look, and if they show graphics or not. and the addition of a thumbs up or thumbs down ability, or a rating system is as well. the 'mods' are simply programming code to create a 'effect' or ability.

Can Moderators delete a post you made simply because they find it irrelevent, even if it may be to the person who posted it and it may be relevant to others, and not tell you they deleted it?

Im just speaking my own opinion and im sure their are plenty of people who both agree and disagree with the idea hence why its posted ideas and improvments section

Ahh I see, I was under the impresion that this forum was created by an individual/individuals who could control how it worked (and can be changed by the modorators). My bad :/

Can Moderators delete a post you made simply because they find it irrelevent, even if it may be to the person who posted it and it may be relevant to others, and not tell you they deleted it? yes, of course they can....but most are honorable and won;t I think, although I believe so far a few of mine have been deleted already.(I say I believe for a reason....I would not put it past me making a mistake and not posting when I thought I had, or do something else which did it myself, and just assume thats what this particular moderator had done.)...and I didn't think the posts were really anything major bad and certainly not against the posted guidlines for the forum, but I think one moderator in particular has strong personal views on things, and if you do not match a moderators views and they decide to be hitler, there isn't much you can do about it. it's a stand off though really, because they also cannot really stop anyone from posting either. they can delete your access, but there is always a millions ways to just come back just as fast, and then it becomes a issue of a pissing contest which just ruins the whole forum for everyone. much better to be civilized, imo and respect people are different, and some have their reasons and others have theirs. depending on how the forum is setup, and the access levels granted, moderators and owners can also read your private messages, modify your messages with and without you even knowing they did it, and post under your account, or even log in as you. It's just the way it is. and they are moderators....they are gave access to do things because they take care of the forum and have a function, so it isn't unreasonable either....well until it is unreasonable I suppose. the bottom line is though, this forum as well as most are run by specific people, and often owned by them, so they are allowed to do it anyways they feel like it. if they are jekrs then everyone goes somewhere else and they get to sit on a empty forum and do nothing with themselves thinking they are important. if they are not and it is enjoyable by many, then it is shared and furthered....free market at work, works great.

I know it is your fault and not mine. :-P hehe j/king.... no in all seriousness, my response was to vallery who asked what you tube was, it wasn't pointing out that you can do it on you tube but cannot here. it is a ok suggestion and I wasn't disagreeing at all with you, however...the issue is, in order to do that, you have to make the mod and insert the code to do it...and I do not see anyone here with the skills or desire to do it on this forum...I believe this forum itself is actually just a piggy back from another forum even.... IE whomever started it, (and this isn't knocking them because it is good they did it and a lot of stuff isn't needed anyways.) seems merely just copied a bunch of the default base package of proboards. so that tells me they either didn;t have the skillset or the desire to even do basic mods or additions. for instance the forums could have pictures of various snails in each of it's header categories as thumbnails, it could have graphics and actual color/etc. those are all basic mods to a forum like this....but take it from someone who has been modding forums from the mid 80's back in the days of direct dial BBS's, it all obviously takes time and initiative and perhaps those who own/run this just do not want to or have the ability. so where someone sees a simple thumbs up and thumbs down thing on say youtube, others see something that will be 1000 lines of code, or even using a mod someone else made, implementation problems which always happen and formatting hassles/etc and just don't want to deal with it.

for instance, just to add 3 buttons and tags to the 'quick reply' box would require something like this, then after implementing it, if the visuals don't line up you have to tweek it and find the problems/etc. it's always easy to say, but it takes effort and work to actually do: <script language="javascript"> /* Parts of the following codes were used in this code: UBBC Buttons Color drop-down in Quick Reply Smileys with quick reply */ if(location.href.match(/thread=/) && !document.postForm && !location.href.match(/action=(downloadattachmentpage|movetopic|reportpost)/) && document.getElementsByTagName("form")[0].method == "post") { var buttonsPerRow = 14; // 14 default. // Buttons - [Image Location, Opening Tag, Closing Tag, Title/Alternate Text] var buttons = [ ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/bold.gif"," ","","Bold"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/italicize.gif"," ","","Italicize"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/underline.gif"," ","","Underline"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/strike.gif"," ","","Strikethrough"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/glow.gif","[glow=red,2,300]","[/glow]","Glow"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/shadow.gif","[shadow=red,left,300]","[/shadow]","Shadow"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/move.gif"," ","Marquee"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/pre.gif"," "," ","Preformatted Text"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/left.gif"," "," ","Align Left"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/center.gif"," "," ","Align Center"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/right.gif"," "," ","Align Right"], ["http://s1.images.proboards.com/hr.gif","

The message board relies on Proboards software, so there is a limit as to what can be done (unless you're a coding whiz, but even so there will be inherent limitations).
I can see the usefulness of a Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down button (I'm on another non-snail forum that has Agree/Disagree buttons). If people would like them here, it's up to Proboards first, then it's up to the head admin Paul to make any such changes to the site.

WRT the deleting posts question, a mod can delete a post on this board. I have deleted posts made by spammers, but I have not deleted anyone's posts for any other reason.
Previous mods have deleted posts they felt were irrelevant to a particular thread, but those people are no longer members here, and it hasn't happened anytime recently, as far as I know.
I have not deleted posts from any discussions myself, even if they are going off-topic. I would rather mod with a light hand than a heavy hand. As I said above, I will delete a spammer's posts and their member account, but that's it. Mind you, if someone goes completely off the deep end and posts something really horrible and personally nasty in a thread, then I would get rid of that. But otherwise I don't see any compelling reason to delete posts.

Does dyslexia make you reply twice to the same quote also? I do not know much about it really except the transposing of letters when reading part. I had a friend who was dyslexic fairly bad, and I know it doesn't effect intelligence. but tell me can;t you just re-read something you do not see correctly the first time and understand it better? I have to admit I don;t really know how to handle a situation where someone replies to me "It's my fault for not understanding I'm dyslexic."...should I reword it differently?

I have problems with dyslexia myself, and re-reading something for me is likely to make it worse. My brain cannot process the information, no matter how slowly or how many times I read the material.

wow. I do feel bad for folks who have such problems, I've always been the type to read manuals/other material, and just couldn't imagine having problems with it. I have studied memory and such quite a bit (nothing really to do with dyslexia though.) and without a doubt the worse things can think of happening is ones own mind betraying them, because when it happens one seldom ever even knows. I am close to someone whose grandma has dementia....and she just never even realizes how messed up she is, because to her, she isn't at all.

I am close to someone whose grandma has dementia....and she just never even realizes how messed up she is, because to her, she isn't at all. dyslexia is far less of a problem than demetia even in the most advanced forms. I know someone with dementia to and its quiet upsetting to see them gradualy getting worst. Dyslexia affects people more like how coyote said: I have problems with dyslexia myself, and re-reading something for me is likely to make it worse. My brain cannot process the information, no matter how slowly or how many times I read the material. it can also realy affect how long you take to learn things depending on how strong your form of dyslexia is. These days my dyslexia shows mostly when im reading things and trying to understand them just like coyote said about himself. but in primary school, i always had to be sat near a teaching asistant and they would help me to read things during lessons and when writing stories, they would write it while I say it (on the condition that the lesson was based on improving your story creativity rather then your handwriting skills). I also had a reader during my 'Sats' exams and managed to score a 3 in english, 4 in mathematics, 5 in science (Sats exams are marked level 1 to 5, 5 being best 1 being lowest). it also took me a good 3 and a half years to learn to drive properly because of all the understanding of the signals and remembering which pedal is which (I learned in the end using the A, B, C tecnique 'accelorator, brake, clutch'). Im still very much incapable of passing a driving test in England, though sucesfully passed in Mexico (not worth the paper its writen on though, in Mexico to pass your driving test you basicaly have to prove you can start the engine, steer the car, accelorate it forward and know how to reverse it. If you can do all that and drive it around without having any close calls or stalling the engine for 45 minuits then you pass. only about 8% of drivers in Mexico actualy bother to take the test anyway, so in total about 6% of Mexicos drivers have a licence), so yes its not realy worth the paper its writen on. The reason I have a licence over their is basicaly because im white, police often pull me over to check if I have a licence, so they can take a bribe from me (because im white they think im loaded), How disapointed they must be when I wave my licence in their face and drive off
