Hi,
I know this seems stupid, but, is rubber plant ok for snails? I think their sap is toxic... But snails might be immune somehow. I don't want Baffbot or Pickles getting poisoned because they're gonna have babies ^_^ (I don't want Penelope to be hurt either!) There's a rubber plant that hangs over the fence and it just seems so lush and green. And I'm talking about Ficus Elastica.
Please reply soon, as I need to give them more food!
Thanks, geckonator <3

There is a big rubber tree plantation I drive through daily. Its BIG like 30 kms x 20 kms. As I'm interested in GALS its noticeable by its LACK OF GALS. There may be a number of reasons for this, not necessarily the rubber trees, but I suspect the snails don't appreciate "artificial plantation" which is alien to their normal habitat and they prefer to live outside this area.

inky. lol thats not stupid at all. Its also very wise of you that you decided to try to get some opinions on the forum before doing whatever it is you had planned I had a look on google for you earlyer on today but then fell asleap before replying to your thread lol. I couldent find any information at all to say if the ruber plant (Ficus Alastica) was harmfull to snails directly. What I did find however is that it is infact harmfull and sometimes even fatal to cats and dogs in pretty small dosages. also some gardeners with insect pest problems in their greenhouse use this plant as a natural insecticide by leaving it in their greenhouse. Apparently it has quiet a sweet aroma and flavour to something so small that attracts them to it and surely enough it kills them soon after they have nibbled at it. After reeding these bits of information from, I decided very quickly that although a snail is not classed as an insect, it would definitly be unadvisable to let your snails on this plant unless someone else manages to find that snails have an immunity against it somehow like you said. Like I said, I couldent find anything on it refering to snails or mollusk directly. hope this helps.

I've had rubber trees as houseplants, and the sticky sap is not something I'd want to expose my snails to.
