Hi I was just wondering if fish flakes are the types of fish food you get for your goldfish or tropical fish at the pet store? I am not exactly sure of what they are. Coyote mentioned feeding them to my oxychilus allurius instead of other snails eggs.

Hi axoloa, Just found a thread in feeding about fish flakes. I believe it said goldfish flakes were best and to keep them moist.

I always moisten the fish flakes with a couple of spritzes from the mister bottle after I put them in the tank.

MY gals prefer the tropical, I had to get goldfish flakes instead when the pet shop was closed over the holidays, and they didnt eat it at first. Picky devils.

Hey, i want to ask about fish flakes... I know pasta and bread is in the dangerous food list. I checked the fish flakes ingredients... There is wheat flour in it. So pasta made from wheat also. So how fish flakes is suitable for snails?

Hey, i want to ask about fish flakes... I know pasta and bread is in the dangerous food list. I checked the fish flakes ingredients... There is wheat flour in it. So pasta made from wheat also. So how fish flakes is suitable for snails? Pasta and bread both expand when consumed, same way they would when dropped in warm water. I Know bread has a few harmfull ingredients for snails, as for pasta Im not sure, but im guessing its most likely in that list pure and simply because it expands when consumed. Fish flakes are used by many people for their snails and certainly with algea eating species. No one has found them to be harmfull, just smelly when they are used in large portions and get damp. I use fishflakes to supliment the diet of all my slug species and all my smaller species of snail, but i tend to find my Achatina and Archachatina species dont realy bother with fish flakes unless they are my own hatched babies that have been introduced to fishflakes as hatchlings. hope this helps.

I feed my GALS with just regular fish flakes (I put it on her food, often spray it with a mist bottle to make it stick). She seems to like it! I always sprinkle some crushed cuddlefish bone on one piece/side of the food, and fish flake on the other, and she seems to like the fish flakes better.
But I wonder how much they need? Can you overfeed with fish flake? I put the powder and fish flake on every piece of food she gets. Is it too much?

I think I read somewhere that you should feed fish flake once a week?
Mine go mad for goldfish fish flakes, I put some in a saucer then mix with water to make a thick paste, they all crowd round the dish and its always gone before it spoils!

I feed something like fishflakes (i.e. mushy higher protein foods) about once a week to once a fortnight - but i just made that up myself. I mix it in a bowl with water (i use tropical fish flakes as they're higher protein). I don't add limestone flour to the mix as when i did this in the past i found this would make it go off quicker and they're more than happy munching on their cuttlefish or limestone flour blocks.
I would be reluctant to feed fishflakes at every meal, if it's on the food she doesn't have the option to leave it and i know too much protein can cause problems in other animals. No-ones done any extensive studies into it so it could be fine, however i'ld be inclined to give her the option i.e. don't put it on the food put it in a bowl near the food so she can opt to leave it if she likes. (the same with the calcium, they'll usually take as much as they need)
