Good luck Raising baby snails is a lovely experience, but I should take care to only raise the amount that you can keep or definitley find homes for and freeze the rest of the eggs. But congratulations anyway

I have owned a Helix Pomatia for two years and I just love him. I am thrilled to death to find this site! Today I was removing the moss from his tank to clean it and discovered the most beautiful pearl eggs! About 6-7 of them. The research I have done so far with this breed says they lay eggs after 2-8 weeks after mating. Zhuky has had no other snail in his terrarium for the past two years. Could these eggs be unfertilized? Will he lay more? I have removed them and placed them in a separate container with soil and moss and will check them everyday as I don't know exactly when they were laid. I am sooooo looking forward to being a grandmother! Any advice for me out there?

Congratulations The eggs could be fertile. It is not unusual for snails to mate and then keep the sperm for many months before letting the eggs fertilise and develop. My advise would be to keep them at the same temperature as the soil they were laid in - perhaps keep the egg tub in the snail tank. It may be useful to place damp moss over them. What ever you use to cover the eggs (soil or moss) make sure they are damp but not water-logged. Now you have placed them in the tub try not to disturb them. Disturbing snail eggs can kill the developing embyos, but some species are more sensitive to this than others. Good luck

I just discovered little white eggs in the soil of my tank of 3 snails - 1 helix aspersa and 2 cepea hortensis. Not sure which of the 2 mated or who laid the eggs, but very excited to get baby snails. From what I've read, I need to keep the tank humid and warm. Do you know what temperature I should keep the tank at? Not sure if I should get a heat pad for the tank.
I'm also not touching/moving anything around the eggs until after they hatch, at which point I plan on moving them into a smaller, separate tank. For those of you who have successfully hatched baby snails, any other pointers for me? Thanks in advance!!

Hi I am new so i hope i am posting correctly. I finally have eggs from my 2 babies. I want only 2 snails to hatch. If i keep 2 in a marg tub do will they hatch?. My son will be devastated if they dont. I will have to freeze the rest. How can i remove 2 eggs safely? With a spoon? Am very excited! At what point would i add a cuttlefish and lettuce ready for them to eat? Vicky

I, too, have had success with eggs, both in and out of the adult snails' terrarium. Mostly with normal fulicas and jades.

When I removed my Mesodon's eggs from the terrarium, I did something wrong and they all started growing mold. Two entire clutches. So I'd say leave them with the parents until they hatch, then move them to a smaller terrarium so you don't lose them.
