Hey guys, it's me, Rosie. So my dad wanted us to get tropical fish and he got a HUGE tank and so now we are getting tropical fish but we don't know what fish to get as you have to have 6 in the beginning. So what breeds are good, peaceful, active tropical starter fish? Thanks, fish like Barbs, Tetras ect.

Discus fish are great for a comunity tank and come in a wide range of colours. Their probabaly the most beautiful tropical non-marine fish going. However their not cheap. a single Discus will set you back £30 - £50 depending on its size and colouration and this species is a cichlid so it does better kept with its own species and NEVER other cichlid species.
Goramis are probabaly the closest in appearence you will find to a Discus and these are much cheaper £3- £6 each depending on size and colouration. These are not cichlids and are happy kept with any non-teritorial species.
I Used to keep both of these species together and they were just fine, but now I focus more on larger species (Knife fish, Oscar fish, Silver sharks, Scats)

hmm, well you already mentioned barbs, tiger barbs are pretty : D Zebra Danios are a nice small fish that will school up with your tetras as if their the same species. You could also buy a Japanese Fighter fish. these are realy beautiful and are fine with all comunity tank species, but you can only have 1 of these in the same sex! 2 males will kill each other and 2 femails will kill each other, so you would either need just 1 of these or 1 male and 1 femail but never more than that : ) I stand by what I said about the Goramis though, their a lovely species for any comunity tank : ) its better to have 2 or more of these though because they preffer to school only with their own species : ) they wont pay any interest in socialising with other species at all. Mollies are another interesting species with good colouration verieties. Personaly I dislike the species (not sure why). but lots of people love them, and these are very very easy breeders because their live-barers and breed in most temperatures. better to remove the babies into a small plastic tank though because they will very quickly end up being eaten by your other species because of their small size.

Hi Rosie , I love Jumbo Chinese Goldfish. Fancy, Oranda, lionhead, there are a lot more and I think they are so beautiful I haven't read up much on them if they are community fish or not. There are also Jumbo Moors and they are all so beautiful. Good luck with your new fish family. Vallery x

We've been finding tiny shells around the aquarium ever since we got our first 6 and today we've spotted 2 or 3 more aquatic snails! I can't wait to see if they don't get eaten and if they grow up. So far we have (in order of buying) 6 Zebra Danio. 2 Bristle nose cat fish 2 Flame Platys and 2 Angel fish (Man wouldn't let us get more) 2 Flame Platys and 2 Angel fish (Mum got more, man didn't know her) 3 Balloon Mollys Dad wants to get a 4-5 ft. tank in a year or so and he said I can keep the snails in there with the light and themometers and heating to keep at they're conditions and also then I can have a 3 ft. tank for them I just can't wait. Updates sooner than a year on the tank, Rosie x

Hi Rosie Is there any way you can post pictures of your new fish and aquatic snails I am especially interested in the balloon Molly's. Maybe if you don't use a flash you could get some pictures without getting a reflection from the flash. Valery
