Hi Everyone , I just got my new and first Daring Jumping Spider. I just put him in his new home about a half hour ago and he has been very busy building himself a nice silky resting sac. He will need the rest after all his work. He is really adorable I will post pictures soon. Haven't thought up a name for him yet. Any suggestions? vallery Thanks to geckonator for a great name for my spider. Mr. Truth Cuddles. Finally got a semi good photo of Mr. Truth cuddles and added it to this thread.

Truth? As in Truth or Dare? OR you could do something like Cuddles for the irony.

Hi geckonator , Well Truth it is! I went in to the kitchen and put my finger out for him and called him over this morning, using the name truth and he hesitated then came right over to my finger tip. So I have decided to call him Mr. Truth Cuddles. I wonder if he Will get a visa card. I once ordered a product for our cat Jackson and it arrived addressed to him. Truth is to small for me to get a good picture of with my present camera. I have a better camera on my wish list. But I can describe him. He is a chunky hairy little black guy with tiny green iridescent fangs. Thank You for the great name. vallery x

I had to google to see what he looks like. Those are actually quite cool looking spiders! Does he jump a lot in general, or is it a predatory attack where the name comes from? I confess: I've a terrible case of arachnophobia. Just the other night I was watering the balcony plants and a big spider suddenly lowered itself at great speed on me from the ceiling... though it was a few feet away from my face I jumped back and screamed and decided to water the rest of the plants the next morning! But despite being very afraid of them, I've entertained the idea of a pet spider for as long as I remember. Back when I was maybe 12-13 years old I came as far in realising this plan as reserving a Chilean spider (can't remember the species anymore) that I saw at the petshop, while shopping for supplies for my GALS that I had back then. My mother thwarted that plan, alas. She called the pet shop and cancelled my spider order. Despite fearing them in the wild I think a pet spider is different since it cannot suddenly attack me or move quickly out of sight or do anything weird, which are the (irrational or not) reasons I fear spiders. It's like a therapy spider for arachnophobia in a confined environment!

Hi Pinkunicorn , Generally spiders freak me out but this type of spider is very unique and I find adorable. They will jump away if the are scared or jump to catch a fly. They don't bite you unless of course you squeeze them or something. His home has a feeding hatch were you can put a fly through or give them some water. Just below the feeding hatch I put a wet piece of tissue that he can drink off of I am going to get a small sponge and replace the tissue with the sponge. They will crawl up onto your finger and hand if you let them and jump off. You only have to feed them once or twice a week. They are one of the best spiders to have as pets. It is almost like they connect with you. I would recommend getting one. Mr. Truth Cuddles is busy again today building his resting sac. He is quite fascinating to watch. vallery

Thanks geckonator. I swear he knows his name. Iv'e tried calling him by different names in the same tone and he doesn't budge unless I call him by his real name. He is an excellent hunter. vallery x

That's so cute! Good to know he can hunt, a hunting spider that couldn't hunt won't live very long!
