Well, to an American it sounds like it. Not had much experience with people with the cool accents, but you still have cool accents. To you, does it sound like Americans have an accent?

HAHAHAHA! you could make some real enemies over here saying things like that, next you'll be saying northerners and southerners are the same though i do agree most of the accents are brilliant (there's a few i'm not keen on but the majority are awesome - In my opinion Scotland has some of the best accents ever, all of them from the Highlands to Glaswegian) the UK has some of the most varied and wonderful array of accents, there are completely different accents some inhabitants can hardly understand each other i love the geordie accent but when i encounter one with a strong accent I do have to really pay very close attention (being a midlands lass). I would say accents here are more different from one another than any American accent, unfortunatly all the portrayed UK accents in TV/films especially american ones are the 'posh' ones (usually playing someone evil). You couldn't possibly say a Brummie, a Cockney, a Glaswegian and a Geordie (to name a tiny few of the varied accents) sound anything remotely like each other or the stereotypical British film accent. There are some truly wonderful and seriously varied accents out there in the UK they're well worth listening to. I dont know if theres a site of UK accents but if there is you really should listen to some, you'll see the difference then. Or compare taggart with all creatures great and small. My all time favourite strong accent words are the old yorkshire dales veterinary (pronounced as vit-ner-ey) and when i heard a geordie say tour boat (two-er bow-at) i did do a little skip of glee and i love the occasions when my dad revets to his roots a bit and says horse-riding (oss-riding). even if you just take one of the countries in the UK (e.g. Scotland) there's a huge array of accents. look up Tom Leonard - 'The Six O' Clock News . It's a brilliant poem written in the Glaswegian accent ranting about the old style "bbc" type accent (the one you usually hear in American films). Anyway i'm going off topic a bit

I'ld say the american accent thing is interesting. Theres what i would call a normal american accent like the ones you get on TV programs a lot which i often forget is american as it is heard so often. then there are some very obviously different ones, and although i recognise them as different and clump them together i don't know where to associate them with (bar texan or deep south) but they're all less different from one another than the ones in the UK i would say (although significantly different!).
There is one American accent i have to confess i hate with a passion (but i dont know where it is from) which the answerphone i previously had had as default. I would almost scream everytime i heard it. please leave your message afffteerrr the tone AGHHHHHHH!!!!!

O.O What happened? It just randomly moved... I call that one the "annoying lady voice" and I am proud to say that I can do it perfectly. I usually speak with the typical American accent, like the TV one, and I can pull off a pretty good TX accent. When I try doing a British accent it sounds really weird though.
Edit: Ah. I wish I was a mod. :/

haha, I haven't seen the harry potter films in a long time but i'm sure there's a few token other accents in there (not many but a smattering) definitely no Geordie even though some of it was shot near there.
(the wierdest feeling i've ever had was when dressed in my university robes for congregation in a large que of other robed individuals walking along one of the corridors they used for part of hogwarts in the films, you just find yourself going... why don't we have wands? we should have wands! why does that window not show the same view as the film? where are the brooms? i want an owl! etc etc)

to be fair i cant do any accent to save my life. (except the thermians from Galaxy quest which doesn't really count) Except i will pick accents up if im there too long. When down south or sometimes at uni (lots of southern accents despite being in the north) i occasionally pick up the southern elongated a. saying barth instead of bath, glarse instead of glass (or visa-versa if you are from the south) is one of the greatest crimes which leads to instant ridicule and potential expulsion from that end of the country I also love the highland scotish accents if i'm there too long i start to pick it up and it's really embarassing when you can't stop and they realise you've picked it up

i also have a tendancy to pick up the word Aye and i've never figured out if its the yorkshire aye or scottish aye i'm picking up but it doesn't fit with where i'm from atall so it seems very odd to others if i say it. (I think it should be made an official "everyone should use this word" word it's a great word)

Hi dumbledore ,
Us Canadians have often heard that we have an accent but most I have spoken to don't think we do. We have heard by others that for the word about we pronounce it aboot but we actually don't. We do say Aye a lot though. ''How's it going aye?''

There are a few good clips on YouTube for people who can do a variety of accents we use them in school for drama lessons when working on voice I will look for the links

Norwegians are crazy about accents (or dialects, that's what it's called when not only the pronunciation differs, but also vocabulary and grammar even). Since we moved a few times when I grew up, I got teased for how I spoke and ended up with a mix of different dialects and accents. Scottish dialects are cool (but not always easy to understand for foreigners).

I think the reason why most Canadians probably don't think we have "accents" might be because they don't travel to other English speaking countries enough to have others tell them how they sound.

I have an Australian accent, apparently it's pretty cool having one according to some overseas friends. All UK accents in general are pretty awesome though, not saying they're the same or anything And yeah, everyone has an accent, people just grow up with it so they're used to it and it doesn't seem odd to them. I've been told that my accent is strong and weird but I don't hear a thing wrong with it. EDIT: Oops, I just realised I posted on an older thread. Sorry!
