Well I been sick for a while now with a damaged lung and pleurisy in the good lung, so not been up to scratch or extremely diligent due to these horrible meds the Dr's have me on. And some how I've managed to miss a few things I'd normally have been very aware if. No excuses on my part just the side effects of these meds are pretty dire.
So last night I was mucking out the snails and feeding them as normal and in the tanks that are home to some Helix aspera and some Cepaea hortensis + Cepaea nemoralis that we rescued from the sand dunes at the beach which were about to be flooded due to the very bad winter storms, (the weather's been so bad that the dunes have been all but destroyed and washed away). When I came across x2 lots of surprises.
Now ok neither of these species of Snail are rare over here but both due to there habitat are different in size and color to the norm. I listened to the rug rats who were worried that these snails would soon be homeless. So we gathered a few colonies and back home they came to some tanks until the spring when they can go back to the same area if the dunes have been replaced.
Well now we have both eggs and babies form the helix asperas and a few babies from the Cepaea that came from those dunes, to add to the one's that were missed before when I was away. Seems this time I managed to miss a few eggs under the coconut shell in the Cepaea tank, and in the flower pot with the Aspera. Not that I mind because these could really be some of the few serving snails from that area. And yeah the babies are always cute.
The rug rats are delighted about them and they have now been re homed in baby snail tank and the eggs to a tub to await hatching.
I'll get some photo's and post them soon just gotta get to town for some batteries for the camera. These little guys are kinda a nice surprise all the same and oh so cute.
