You know, out of the months I've been trying to research this, that was the BEST answer I've come across to date. It explained exactly why and answer my question perfectly without having to delve into more. As sad as it sounds, I am so grateful to receive such a perfect answer. Especially in my time on non caffeine fueled state lol On a separate note, that picture I sent before of the weird looking margie, it was scarring - the owner eventually replied. I still don't want to give up, I'm way too stubborn! so I will continue to seek information and when I do I will put it up here for all to see. I very much appreciate your efforts in this conversation (to all who has replied) It's a fantastic thread, and should be recognized lol, we will, one day, get to the bottom of this (okay so it's not exactly ground breaking scientific research, but it could be ... maybe)

thanks Although i am guessing about the eyespot appearing pink in albino snails due to pink pigments being left. I know pigments are involved but i don't know which sorts and colours without trying to do some research. However it would seem the most plausible explanation. as i do know albinos do loose a pigment layer in the retina. But if pink pigments would be left? that i can't be certain of but seems highly likely. NEVER GIVE UP NEVER SURRENDER! we will get there and if people try to keep pedigrees of the snails they breed we can try and do a mendel and work some of it out I sometimes wish i could get to a caffine fueled state. I don't like coffee or tea so the best i can do is dark chocolate which isn't quite as effective... i do wonder what i would be like...

I had 3 scoops the other day and I can honestly say it makes you feel like a squirrel lol By the way I forgot to ask, would you like any of the studies I was sent by the professors? A few are just on polymorphism but there is that study about white skinned from urban and dark from wild

What an interesting thread! If my new suts breed for me when they are bigger, then I shall report my findings

This is a really interesting topic to read and I also have been considering a lot regarding this as I have some Albino snails here.
I'm coming at this also from a slightly different angle as I have a very rare breed / type of horse that a lot of genetic research is currently being done on. There are various coat patterns etc as you get with shell patterning in snails, and various other gene combinations like silver and the champagne genes etc that can effect normal genetics. Something that also hasn't been mentioned here is the Cream gene which works again slightly differently to Albion and yellow.
It's something when I get more time I intend to look into regarding snails. A lot of the genetic work being done for horses is based at U.C.L Davis In California. When I next have to get in touch with them I'll see if I can find any contacts there or via there in to snail color genetics.

oooo what colour is your horse Zorst?
A lot of us have tried to find papers on the subject but not had much luck - i strongly suspect there's just not the funding for the studies on snails unless it's in regard to them as a pest. Unless it's research on humans, ways of feeding humans more/getting more out of crops, getting rid of pests to protect crops or research on "cute fluffy animals" (because this gains media attention so therefore more funding etc) most funding bodies just aren't interested. There might be some early papers from back when people were more keen on blueskies research but nowadays unless you can put forward your application with a million and one reasons as to what you will find (which you can't possibly know or what's the point?) will benefit the human race, no-one's going to fund it. *grumble grumble grumble*. Sorry miniature rant over... (to be fair a lot of it is taxpayer money and they want to know what will be found and how it will benefit them and there are some blue skies research grants out there)
... anyway.... if you do find anything if you could let us know that would be fantastic!

Grulla with the possible cream gene ( It may yet prove to be something else totally) and something else unknown lol! This horse is one of a few with this strange marker and its genetic testing anomalies only became apparent when the test results came back for color. We ended up running several tests because this horse is clearly a Grulla to look at yet the test results were coming up wrong.
Anyway a lot more work n questions started to dig out some interesting results and a lot of further ongoing work. I have quiet a few others of this type of horse as well in many different colors n combinations again with interesting DNA n genetic markers.
The grulla / poss cream is proving to have some other very unusual characteristics, genetics and markers that have only just started to be recognized and recorded. So is one of only a handful of horses world wide with this new marker and characteristics, its all very interesting and on going research.
Hence I'm already interested about it regarding the snails, and have been wondering a lot of things as well, So this has proven to be some very interesting n thought provoking reading.
When I'm next in touch with the researchers who are working on the horses I'll find out what I can re snails, as they do all sorts of research of many species, if they can't help I'll if they can give me details of anyone else to talk regarding it.
I'll let you know what I get.
