Has anyone tried feeding fresh herbs to their snails?
I gave my helix aspersa's some basil a few months ago but they wouldn't go near it. Maybe because of the strong smell.
There are so many different ones available, parsley, rosemary, sage etc.
Just wondering what mine would be most likely to eat.

Basil is listed as a gastropod favorite in "The secret world of slugs and snails," so I am surprised your snailies aren't fond of it. I have tried to plant fresh basil in my terrarium in the past, but it gets chomped too fast! I was thinking about making a basil terrarium with wall-to-wall plants and only a few slugs. This might allow the plants to survive the onslaught.
Helix aspersa are routine starved, fed pure basil, and starved again prior to being shipped off as escargot. The basil is said to bring out a certain flavor. So I can't think why yours wouldn't eat it. Maybe they are worried about being turned into escargot! Have they been introduced to basil from a young age? Are yours bred in captivity?
As for other herbs, I've not yet tried anything else. I think they would be interested in many and it's worth experimenting with.

To date, I have never fed my snails herbs before, but since my grocery store sells organic herbs for such a low prices I might consider buying it for them. I've fed mine basil, but they weren't a huge fan. Lettuce first, basil second. Everything other than the snails loved the basil, so I'm not sure why they weren't fond of it.
