So I'm wondering if anyone can help me.. I went to pick up some MTS today to save the owner salting them to death. I thought he meant 40-50 snails. turns out, he meant around 500-600 snails. I keep my snail types seperate, and already have a snail 15L coldwater set up with a few MTS in there. Its way too small for this many. I have a 4ft fish tank, but i keep it quite clean and dont overfeed my fish, so theres around 10 pond snails in there, and thats all it really seems to sustain. I've had to empty 150 of them into there so far. Anyone any ideas on what i can do in the meantime? The snails i put in there will most likely start dying off, and i dont want piles of rotting snails in there because it'll kill my fish. I keep corydoras which dont kill snails but will eat any food in there so it isnt easy to overfeed. And i cant get easy access to any fish which eat them or assassins. In a bit of a bind, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't risk your other animals. I don't know much about them but do they need a heated tank in the current weather? If not could you maybe set up lots of plastic containers for now to house them in? Then see if there's anyone near you who could take some on? Ultimately as sad as it is, if it comes down to it death by euthanasia for some is better than death by overcrowding but obviously this is a last resort.

MTS will survive almost anything. Keep the extras in a non-heated container and you will be fine with normal house temperatures. Feed them fish pellets or food. They are particularly fond of zuccini or squash that has been microwaved or blanched for a feelw seconds. I suggest checking with your local pet stores to unload any extras. They may take them, or, you can put out a local advertisement and people will even pay for them.

You could also advertise them on Gumtree at your local vets, and here on the forum.
