Do they need more things then other snails? None of the petstores around here have snails only hermit crabs. I just want to know if I need to do more then what the information on here says for backyard snails.

I have another question, will he survive in a big bowl with good soil and kiwi and lettuce for maybe 2 more days?

No, he don't climb I have him by my bed and I wake up at least once in the middle of the night and he never climbs out. I know I sound crazy, but I found my old hermit crabs cage and I am going to scrub it really good for him to move into.

To answer your questions... Most snails you find, large enough to notice, are fine to keep because they will eat fruit and veg etc. Some types won't and rely on lichens, fungi and stuff we can't cultivate so keep an eye on him to make sure he is eating. If he's not, I'd return him to the wild. If he is, no problems. That is more than enough food for 2 days for him but the bowl idea isn't good one and maybe the fact he isn't coming out of his shell as mentioned in your other thread: petsnails.proboards3.com/index.cgi?board=problems&action=display&n=1&thread=1661In a centrally heated home or during warm weather, the humidity drops massively and he will want to seal himself up to protect against the dryness, which is called aestivating. Outside, when the sun goes down, the temperature drops considerably and the humidity increases as the cooling air effectively releases moisture because it can no longer hold as much. This is why snails are primarily nocturnal. The point I'm making is that you need a proper tub that retains moisture. Spraying can help but you need a better solution. You'll get to know how wet is correct when you observe his behavior. The substrate needs to be damp but not with standing water. For his size, a small/medium tupperware tub with holes in would be more than ample. You obviously need to pick one that you can see through, and don't instantly make loads of holes. Make a ring of holes around the lid, and add more if necessary. You'll know that if you get lots of condensation that doesn't clear at all. Franks activity will improve and you'll see him more active during daylight. Also, he may not escape today but he will. He will get curious and will find a way. You asked what else he needs. He needs a supply of calcium to build his shell. Cuttlefish bones they sell for budgies are ideal. Give it a rinse first because snails are extremely sensitive to chemicals. In fact when you scrub your other tank ready for him, make sure it is really throughly rinsed. Personally I'd look for a few friends his own size for him. To be honest I'm saying all this but really you need to spend some time reading over this: www.petsnails.co.uk/index.php?action=careThis will answer most of your questions.
