One of mine from Sarah likes to "retract" like that in to sleep, well not as in as yours. But when I spray her at feeding time, she will just come out. The others usually have their "legs" dingling out of the shells. Not too sure if that is normal or not, but if you wake her up, does she just come out like that?

3 of mine do that also. it concerns me, but they come out and eat fine when I hold them or spray them.

Yes,you have to keep an eye on those snails if they retract that far.I wouldn't call it normal, but it doesn't have to mean that they are ill.

Hello I have a similar problem but in my case they die !! I explain you This just happen at the beginning of Winter . There is a moment they go to sleep and someones are retracted like you see on the photo. At the beginning I thought they were hibernating but if I just leave them they die!! Not all do the same but it is odd. At the beginning I thought it was the snail was already ill ( I had just bought it from a market) but this last time I got 3 through internet and they were 1 month old. Now they are around 9 months old and 1 just died like that, there is other one active and the other one begin to stop its activity and worry me!! . In general I think I do everything them to be healthy but I don't know if there is any illness they can get in UK. Temperature never go down of 15 degrees C. Mixture of lettuce, different fruits and oats flakes, the soil is compost. Any idea? And if they go to sleep do I wake them up or just leave them?

If you mean your tank is at 15 degrees c then that is a little cold for your snails. My fulica are happiest and active at around 24 degrees celcius - you probably need to heat the tank.

The lab where they are is quite warm 20 or more C (almost all the time) but in very cold days it could be arrive at 15 degrees. I think this winter has not been the case. Anyway thanks for the advice.
I have a little one (0.5 cm) that looks very happy but it is in a plastic box without any compost, just the food and the calcium (to avoid any possible infections).

Hello again I was thinking of another possibility (from the sleeping snails) : could Insecticides be poisonous on the snails?? I have 3 but it is just one who looks sick. I give them lettuce (and more things) but I am thinking that maybe the level of toxics could affect some snails.. Do you buy special vegetables (organic) for your snails? What do you do if a snail has ingested some poison?
