Hi Just found some snail eggs in my big tank, which is being shared by Fulicas, Margies and Tigers. I need to find out which species laid the eggs. I dont really want any more Fulicas but Tiger eggs are a different matter Am pretty sure after looking at the egg pics on here they aren't Margies, too small. They are laid on the surface and there are about thirty, forty of them. What do tiger eggs look like? Gail

Have you seen the piccie that arno posted on here, of the margie and tiger eggs? Its still difficult i know, but i think that tiger eggs are bigger than fulica's. Are they your Brixton Tigers?? Anjie,x.

I saw Arno's piccie, but I thought it was Margie and Fulcia eggs. I'll go have another look. Don't know how to compare fulica eggs because I've never seen any. Apart from pics. They are only just old enough to breed, the fulicas that is. Yeah Anjie they are the Brixton Tigers Be really good if they were tiger eggs, thats why I need to make sure. Gail

It's hard to know if they are Tiger eggs because size is relative to the snail's size. So you can't go off egg size really. Here is what I found out about tiger eggs:
"0-300 eggs per clutch. Broadly oval, dirty yellowish. 8 to 8.7mm long, 6.5 to 7mm wide in nominate species. Slightly smaller (7 by 5.5 to 6mm) in subsp. elegans"
So far, it seems that most people's tiger eggs are either very yellow or have a yellowish tinge to them. Which is more to go on than with most species.

Well looks like I have a nice crop of fulica eggs then. Mine are more like persil white than yellowish. Thanks for the info.
Sorry Anjie, would have been nice if they had been Brixton tigers and to really top it all off found last night that one of my baby tigers had died.

Yes it is.....he was the weakest of the four, least active. although he was growing, slowly. Found him retracted way back in his shell, only seen that in garden snails before. Tried bathing him, but no good he had already died. After all your hard work too Paul. I'm not very happy this morning.

Oh Gail, i'm soo sorry to hear that. You don't have to apologise to me. I'm not very happy this morning either, I've got this HUGE tiger here and he hasn't eaten a thing since i got him last week, well, i don't think he has anyway - i haven't seen his head once!! Heres a piccie:- This was his progress last night - took him nearly 2 hours to get this far out of his shell! I was holding him in my hands the whole time to warm him up. I've told Arno he can have him if he survives so i am just hoping he does. We called him Marvin.

Wow.....never seen snail that big before, never mind a tiger. Hes beautiful, hope he pulls throu for you. Good luck with him, guess youve tried warm baths. Have you tried putting him under the hot tap and bathing his shell? not in hot hot water, but fairly warm. Just the shell part, not for too long just quick bursts. Warms the shell up quite well. Know it doesnt sound too good, thou. Have done it with mine, perked them up a bit.

You could always put him outside in the sun, well where it hot, but no sun. In this weather he'll probably think hes back in his homeland I'm baking and I'm inside. Gail

He's beautiful isn't he. I showed arno a photo of him last night and he fell in love hehe so i really hope he pulls through.
I've tried warm baths, holding him under a warm tap, holding him in my hands all night and tucking him under my tshirt, he's on a heatmat constantly. Maybe he has eaten though.....sneakily lol. I just wish i could see his face.
Good idea Gail, it is hot today, maybe i'll put his tank outside and keep an eye on him.
Anjie,x.

I'm not surprised Arno fell in love let us know how he gets on. Have you tried him with some company? Know you'll probably want to keep him seperate, but I noticed with my Brixton's the fulica just climbed all over them and sometimes this brought them out of their shells just to see what was going on Snails are surprisely nosey. Gail This is true of my snails also...I had one brixton Margie at first and he was active, but only late at night and didnt do a lot of moving around, since I introduced two new snails, around his size to his housing yesterday he has been much more active, moving around slowly all afternoon and even hanging off the lid of his housing, I'd seen him climb the front a bit before, but not the lid...The other margies, which are being kept in groups of 2 and 3, and my 4 tigers...seem very active, and interactive with each other also..Maybe it needs company?

Its got company though, 'cause i agree that these snails are really sociable creatures. He had 3 tigers in with him until yesterday...they went off to live with Hetty, but he's in with 2 different tigers now. I'll keep persevering until he lives or dies.
Glad your snails are all ok Kevin.

We are making extremely slow progress with the snail who won't come out! I stood him in a tub lid and poured in a small amout of water, just enough to come to the lip of his shell, and left him there! I fell asleep watching him and when i woke up he was here:- Which is the furthest i have ever seen him out! This morning, he was here! And he had MOVED!!! I feel like i am slowly watching this snail starve to death!! Have i said that before hehe. Anjie,x.

Awww Anjie. It might be slow, but its PROGRESS!!!! ;D Compared to what he has been doing, that is brilliant and least you now know a way to encourage him out. You can keep doing it and try different foods underneath him, he might sneakily eat some Well done on persevering. Nat

Hey thats great Anjie, least hes coming out of his shell now.....once hes out at least you get a chance of getting some food in him. Its so hard when they wont pop their heads out.....no chance of tempting them with anything. Hes getting there, just a little more time and some crossed fingers Gail

Anjie, I am SO SO SO pleased for you and Marvin!!!!!!!! I have been following his progress and honestly if anyone could save him it will be you. I am sure that he will go from strength to strength now at least I am so hoping he will. He has taken a LONG while to feel secure enough to come out of his shell. Might be worth considering keeping him and not subjecting him to being packaged up, travelling etc.,
