Hey everyone, I've been keeping snails for about a year and a half now, but I've never had a slug. Just now, I found an adult leopard slug (about 4 inches fully extended) named Fred. He's really pretty, with little stripes on his head and a spotted mantle(?) and a striped body. The only problem is... I don't know how to take care of him! I heard that slugs need a hiding place due to their lack of a shell, so I put a small glass jar covered in moss in the Critter Keeper I have him in. I misted the terrarium and put some purple and green lettuce in there, now I left him in a nice dark spot. Any suggestions? I read that they can be cannibals and eat smaller slugs or snails, is this true? Thanks, -finch

I do know that slugs like lettuce, because I found them on my lettuce in my vegetable garden. Same goes for leaves of cabbage-type plants. Slugs also eat poop of pretty much any animal. But I can totally understand if you don't want to feed them that xD I also know they eat dead other snails. I found slug trails all over the place where I "euthanized" the two H. aspersa earlier. I'm not sure if they also attack live snails and slugs, though.

I also released all but two of the snails in my terrarium, keeping the two Mesodons. I am eagerly awaiting my Helix Pomatias!

But I'm sure some people think otherwise. So now you have Tea, another Mesodon, and how may H. pomatias will you have? I think those are very pretty!

The lady might be sending a third one, I don't know because I didn't read the entire eBay listing (it said "buy two, get a third one free", so we shall see what we end up with!). I might not name it Dandelion, I want it to be a very beautiful/epic name. Any suggestions?

Something may pop up in your mind that suits the snail. I feel snails have a bit of a personality to their own, and some names just aren't as suitable as others.

I'll make a list of names, though, just to make it easier. Have you seen Etana's snails' names? Isakki, Mauno, and Maija are such pretty names . I don't know if they're from something though, like a movie?

I think naming snails is the trickiest thing. I really like the name Tea. Those names you mentioned are very pretty too, and ny best guess would be they're from some foreign language. I have two new snails who are still without a name. I think short names normally suit snails best. I have a few original names, also some cliche ones which just had to be. My favorite name of my snails is Mochi. I have Mini, Eduard, Morpheus, Desmond, Oro, Chappi, Geel, Sen, Rosey, Mochi, Daphne, Hazel and Storm. As you can tell, no naming conventions, just whatever suits them

Mochi is an adorable name! I commented on your thread called "My Snails", I think. I want to draw one of your snails!

What cute names! I like the name Dandelion as well. Here are a few name suggestions, Coffee and Biscotti. Then you could name one Crumpet to go with your Tea

That reminds me, perhaps Matcha is a nice name too, it's a Japanese green tea
